ATI 5970 released and reviews, and latest Nvidia news

The massive 5970 gets released today, and the reviews are poring in.
Radeon HD 5970 reviews go online

Bottom line is it the fastest card around, is very long at about 31 centimeters, and sucks lots of power, though supposedly less than the older 4970.

Anandtech as always has a very good review:
The Radeon HD 5970: Completing AMD's Takeover of the High End GPU Market

Nothing on Newegg yet, but will probably cost more than $500 when it hits.

Fudzilla also has the latest on Nvidia, and says it is looking like January for their next gen cards:

Man they are massive. Mobo makers should start putting the PCI-E slots at the bottom of the board so I can actually get to my different ports, including SATA without removing these monsters.

    Your not kidding!
You really have to look at a motherboard these days before you buy, and read as many reviews on the ones on your short list. A really good review will mention if they forsee trouble like having no access to a boards SATA ports because of the way it is laid out.

Four of my six connections are accessible, so I had to order one of the ones with a 90% connection, like this below, so it would fit under the gfx. card.

It is getting ridiculous how large and power hungry these cards are getting.

It's amazing to see that my once glorified 8800GTX is now near the bottom tier of performance.
