Links To Keep You Busy This Weekend - 12-5-09 Edition
Welcome back to the latest edition of the great TG weekend time waster.
Now's your chance to catch up on all the news you missed in the past week.
I'm probably going to break this edition up into a couple of posts so I don't have to type it all out at once.
Enjoy!!!
Tech Hardware News
Thermaltake Level 10 now shipping, ready to rock your socks and wallet off - Amazing case, and an amazing price to go along with it.
Intel crams 48 cores onto stamp-sized processor - This is pretty crazy. Not going to be running Crysis anytime soon, but is a a look at the future.
Intel's desktop roadmap leaked, with faster i5 and i7, introduction of i3 - While on the Intel subject, this will give you an possible time line to plan out your future computer.
Gboard is the Colorful Gmail Keyboard For Shortcuts That You Need Now - I use Gmail, but don't think I'm hardcore enough to need this. Some folks will find it very useful though.
Geforce 3D Vision Glasses Review: I Can See Forever - The reviews of these are pretty amazing from all the sites, but for the price I just don't know. I would have to play with these myself for a couple of hours to see if it would be worth it.
LG Announces First Full-HD 3D Monitor to Hit Store Shelves - While on the 3D subject, this is just the beginning. Many many more to come. Just going to be weird wearing glasses sitting in the living room.
Sony Says Up to Half Its HDTVs Will be 3D in 2012 - And still more 3D news. About a month to go till CES show, and it's going to be all over the news.
Sanwa’s 1999 Keyboard With Trackball -If they moved the trackball to the right side instead of the number bad, and made it wireless, would be awesome to use on a home theater PC or when you are kicked back with your feet up on the computer desk.
CompuLab's fit-PC2i is extra tiny, ready for Windows 7 - Man, that thing is tiny. I want to see some actual performance numbers from this matchbox.
Buffalo SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external hard drive reviewed, fast - USB 3.0 is going to be sweet once all motherboards and toys have made the switch.
Kindle is the top-selling product on Amazon - This is mind blowing. I don't know anyone who has even seen a Kindle before. But it might prove to companies that a better form, like the Apple Tablet thing, would be a good seller.
A RADICALLY NEW TYPE OF ENGINE - It is pretty amazing that there are really only 3 types of engines out there, and they haven't changed that much. Maybe it's time to look for something else.
A Stoplight for the Progress Bar Generation - They can't get these installed fast enough for me! I WANT THEM NOW!
SilverStone announces the Fortress FT02 chassis - Sweet looking case, with more than enough room for anything you want to put inside. But man, $300 is a bit much.
Netbooks: What You Need to Know About the Next 6 Months - If you are thinking of buying a netbook, or a nettop as well, you should read this.
Harman Kardon Unveils the Coolest Speakers Ever Made - I don't really like them, but different strokes for different folks.
Thermally-Activated Roof Tiles Change Color to Conserve Energy - How about some hardware for your roof. If these are really cheap and have a long lifespan, they will sell really well.
USB Inserts bring ads into the print age and back again... or something I can't wait to find some of these in magazines.
$10 USB Power Outlets Sound Like a No-Brainer - I will be buying at least 3 of these when they get released next year!
WallDock iPhone charger shoots for minimalist practicality - I will probably pick one of these up for next to the bed.
And finally in hardware news, 2 interesting articles about Nvidia:
Core Values: What's next for NVIDIA? - This one was posted on Engadget, but written by the guy that started AnandTech. Very good read.
AMD vs. NVIDIA - Are they even playing the same game? - Also a good read, this shows how different the two companies really are. That can be good and bad.
That does it for now. Will post part 2 soon.

Back for part 2
Software and Website News
Comcast Rolling Out Broadband Usage Meter This is pretty big news, and not really good news. The other part of the news is Comcast takes control of NBC, promises not to crush Hulu. That makes it even more scary.
Fix Windows 7 problems with the FixWin Utility - If you have some little annoyances with Win7 this might fix them.
Freeware Files: Five Apps for Locking Down Your PC's Security! - Some good stuff, but I'm still annoyed that Sandboxie can't be used on Vista. If you still have XP it might be good to look at. And the part about Google Chrome was interesting.
Gizmodo's Essential iPhone Apps: November '09 Edition - Just in case you need some new phone toys. Also see :The Week's Best iPhone Apps
Use an iPhone or iPod touch as a cordless numeric keypad on your Windows PC - While on the Iphone subject, this is a pretty neat idea.
Which iPhone navigation app should you buy? This'll help - And how about a guide to help you pick from all the new nav apps that are hitting the app store
Square iPhone payment system gets itself a website, showcased in public - Final Iphone news, this system is from one of the guys that started Twitter, and is a system to let you swipe a credit card using an Iphone.
How HTML5 Will Change the Way You Use the Web - Great article that easily explains how awesome HTML5 is going to be.
Linux Mint 8 “Helena” released! - Mint is supposed to be one of the easiest to use Linux for the noobies out there. Supposedly easy get used to and lots of people like.
WinFontsView Gives You a Glimpse of All the Fonts on Your System - Another good article for all you Font hoes out there. It's a free app.
Grooveshark Brings Restriction-Free Music Streaming to People Worldwide - Haven't' had time to try this out yet, but looks like a good way to find good music
Bing Introduces 3-D Photosynth Maps - Looks like Bing maps is trying hard to catch up with Google street view. It uses Photosynth, a program that morphs tons of photos together. So far I'm a bit disappointed since there are hardly any locations to play with it. You kind of have to zoom out and find a blue area. Some parts of DC/Alexandria work, and a few other major cities. Be sure to check it out and see if you like it more than street view.
20 Essential Tricks Every Skype User Should Know - For all you Skypers out there, MaximumPC has a good article for you.
That should do it for part 2.
Will finish this in a few hours.
