    Re: AMD or Intel?

Cool we'll keep an eye out for it. Seems like in the past the best results i had was from a post in the ArmA forumns that linked a Armaholic tweak guide, I've been messing around with my NVidia control panel an trying differnt things to no avail right now I'm gettin maybe low 20fps with ArmA gfx set to low or normal settings, but i loose quite a bit fps in varying situations in game. this morning sometimes my fps would drop below 10 which is very frustrating considering in the past maybe like late summer eveything seemed fine. I did the benchmark mission from 1.05 an got a fps score of 6 for both.

    Re: AMD or Intel?

Call, without a motherboard swap you are limited in your choices for a new CPU.

This is the best AMD socket AM2 (which is what your current CPU is) I found on newegg.

The video card might be another place to look at upgrading like bamboo said.

I was wrong, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2%2B, looks like you can use AM2+ CPU's also. so that gives you some more options.

Here's the list of AM2 and AM2+ CPU's on newegg.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e&Order=PRICED

I agree with Bamboo when he says don't pay Best Buy to install the stuff. It's honestly mostly a matter of assembly. Once you decide what parts you are swapping, put it together, install W7, and you should be good to go.

    Re: AMD or Intel?

So a matching mother board for what ever cpu i get correct, sry just not really my thing. Also been reading the SSD thread too an wandering if thats feasible or not(later on) with more money that is. Maybe do windows 1st(7) then or if possible money wise windows, mb an processor all together. What I'm thinking is trying to extend the life of my pc as I wont be able to buy new for awhile. Otherwise I'd tried a better gfx card.

Correct, you are limited in your choice for a new CPU by your motherboard. I'd keep the motherboard and look at upgrading the CPU, and then maybe the video card, and then add an SSD.

    Something like this maybe....

    1. CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103280
    2. Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102864
    3. SSD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227468

About $400 total, but it would probably give you a pretty hefty boost.

If you are thinking about getting a new motherboard, that's the last thing I would do if I were you right now. Upgrade the other stuff first, then when you want a new motherboard just build a new rig all together.

    Re: AMD or Intel?

With only two reviews of the mobo and both of them raising questions concerning the BIOS, I'd pass on the board personally. Gungir's recommendation to look at the other components is an excellent mid point suggestion to extend the life of your system and with the advances being made is the path that I've taken. I upgraded to an HD9750 @2.41 and although I'm interested in SSD, 30gb is just to small to satisfy my needs as the OS and ArmA2 would fill the disk. If this is all your interested in then go for it but there are some excellent 60 and 120gb solutions.

I got Win7 64bit via Vista upgrade, an i got ATI Radeon 4890 1gig I just thought that i had to upgrade both mobo an cpu regardless what i went with. but if above is true upgrading to above cpu with current mobo may be my best route, as money is an issue. I also plan to do the SSD's at a later date.

I just skimmed this thread so I might have missed it, but I dont think anyone mentioned that you will need new memory (ddr3) if you upgrade your CPU/MB to a i5/i7 or am3.

True for most boards, but not all. Good point to double check though.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

That DFI LanParty was reviewed pretty decently. I believe it has one of the best network controllers on it, but includes one of the cheapest audio controllers.

    http://www.techspot.com/review/214-i...board-roundup/

That article reviews seven P55 motherboards. Which includes the DFI LanParty board. My pick out of the list, is the ASRock P55 Extreme @ $139.99. I myself, plan on going with ASrock, as their motherboards have been given solid reviews, and fantastic prices.
