PC Emulation + Testing 2142
I'm looking to find out if BF 2142 will run on my PC if I upgrade to Vista (again)
I had a strange problem with BF2 on this same machine where multiplayer wouldn't work no matter what, but I never tested it with 2142.
Would using a PC emulator of some sort be an efficient manner in which to test wether or not I could successfully run the game under Vista?

Yeah, I know other people do but I'm concerned I will have the same unexplainable multiplayer failure I got in BF2 under Vista the last time round

Singleplayer would run fine, but as soon as the loading screen came up for multiplayer, it would freeze up.

A recent reinstall of mine on windowsXP had BF2 giving me a number of issues similar to what you describe.
One issue was that it was necessary to install your base BF2, then patch 1.41, then patch 1.51.
After that my game was crashing to desktop with no error message upon pressing "join server" button. This was fixed by changing the shortcut properties which were set by default to run in win95 compatibility mode.|TG-12th| Namebot

It worked when I upgraded from XP to win7, just make sure you patch 1.4 then use the incremental for 1.4-1.5. If it's a new computer, make sure your monitor refresh rate is at 60, the BF's will crash at startup otherwise
