I don't mean to ruffle any feathers or pressure our fine Site Administrators but, I am just curious as to how the investigation into the performance of the TG web server is going.
I haven't noticed any difference in the servers performance since W6 made this post in the Official Announcements forum and shut down the chat bar and ladder system.

I have spent a few hours since that point working on some back end optimization and that work continues. I have primarily spent most of my time so far working on the database side of things and working to cache frequent queries rather than reading from disk all the time. That has had an effect on the back end but not the front end.
I am continuing to work on the problem and hope to have most of the front-end issues resolved this evening. I have a new config for the web server itself that will be going into production (currently in testing) tonight. That will either make things better or kill the whole server. Here's to keeping your fingers crossed!

It looks like I also have some pretty intensive database maintenance that needs to be performed. As such, I'm not going to do that until the weekend. I'll want to take the site completely down while it's being done, so I think I'm going to aim for late Friday night when those that ARE around will most likely be playing games rather than posting.
One thing that has added to the performance is the near DOUBLING of web traffic due to Battlefield 3.

How are things running now? I found a MAJOR boo-boo in the database caching server that I made and corrected the problem as well as performed some other tuning. Things seem MUCH faster for me right now.
I still need to do the database maintenance this weekend, but if things have sped up for you the same as they have for me, this is already a substantial improvement.

I've noticed it's gotten "speedier" in that the forum pages load a bit quicker and posts/threads are fetched a bit faster (would have to load up Firebug to actually look at the loading times). Posting doesn't seem to be any faster or slower for me.

Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
