HL2 SOund/Graphics Stuttering? Why not...
...start our own TG HL2 bug discussion. This must be affecting some people here as there are tens of thousands of views on the subject in the Steam Powered forums.
I thought I had mine licked for the most part but having to go back and replay most of Water Hazard (because, well, I'll spare those of you yet to play it a spoiler) obviously it is not gone.
I have tried:
1) Disabling my McAfee virus scanner
2) Increasing heapsize to half my system RAM
3) Adding these values into my config.cfg file:
-cl_forcepreload "1"
-sv_forcepreload "1"
-cl_forcepreload "1"
Still getting stuttering and it is bloody annoying. If you are not experiencing this then thank your lucky stars because it is a HUGE bug in this game apparently.
I'm about to try turning down sound quality and perhaps installing EndItAll to shutdown system processes not needed befor playing.
Add your comments, suggestions and/or experiences here if you like, even if just to vent a bit. I can't be the only one at TG to be having this problem.

stuttering. Just try this when you finish loading a level... it works for me

Look in EVERY SINGLE direction 3-4 times when you enter a new area. When I do that, i rarly get that lag

Re: HL2 SOund/Graphics Stuttering? Why not...
Yeah, I know it goes away Sniper but the problem seems to be it happens to many continually during the game, not just at the start of levels. It is a real problem and I've had to reset and re-configure my bios tonight because no length is too great to try and get rid of it. You're lucky it is not much of a problem for yourself I guess...
Anyway, I cleared mine up for the most part by using the command parameters above, disabling my virus scanner and using low quality sound.
I won't belabour the point anymore as there doesn't seem to be a lot of concern among HL2 players here.

Re: HL2 SOund/Graphics Stuttering? Why not...
I finally and virtually eliminated the problem after hours of monkeying around.
I set my autosave.sav and autosave.tga files (four of them) to read only. I still get a minor graphics/sound hiccup occasionally but for all intents and purposes I'M CURED! <slaps self on forehead with open palm>
Now if I could only get fastswitch weapons to work (and yes it is enabled in Advanced Keyboard options and shows hud_fastswitch "1" in my config.cfg)...
It works in CS: S FFS...
