Re: SATA on an Asus A8V Deluxe...

Jeez, took me a day and a half to setup my new PC because of this same problem...

I was getting a similar error under Win2K setup and it was simply a matter of timing in pressing F8 during boot, that's it.

Looks like you have some competent help Cing, good luck!

Ah, you're right. I wonder why even include the promise controller.

Do you have this chip? I'm interested in anyone's experience using it for raid mirroring. Specifically with multiple partitions and linux/windows.

Because it's the only way you can get a single SATA drive to work...

ive told you over and over what to do and IT DOES WORK i have 2 pcs setup right now with single drives on VIA ports

Well, I must have a bad controller, then... It won't even detect my drive. And I've other sites that indicate I'm definitely not alone with this issue.

I sure hope I don't have the HL2 stuttering problem...

No, I tried it one more time and have given up on it. The controller doesn't even see the drive when I connect it to the SATA1 connector.

The Promise controller works fine, though...

The Promise controller controls 2 SATA connectors and 1 IDE connector and offers RAID functionality for all... I doubt that I'll be needing two more SATA drives anytime soon. At that point, I'll probably looking to upgrade my mainboard anyway...
