Re: Getting more speed on internet
Check out the speed tests and tweaks and www.broadbandreports.com. If you don't think you're getting what you're paying for, post in a forum (preferably one relevant to your provider) and the techs who tend to volunteer their time will probably help you out.

Re: Getting more speed on internet
Trying to get more than what is advertised is illegal. The only real option is to pay more for a faster connection. Most cable providers beat T1's on the download, what would you need more for?

Check and try the tweak test inside the Broadbandreports.com link already given. I jumped from 1600/270 to 2700/350 with the tweaks provided.

Good luck, lots of interresting stuff at that site.

Re: Getting more speed on internet
It would be so much easier just to run an FTP server on your PC.

Yea, but it's easier to monitor and would have less overhead.

Also notice that most ISPs give out dynamic IPs rather than Static ones. Once again, they don't want you hosting a bunch of crap.

Re: Getting more speed on internet
I had my 512k upgraded to 1mb (Blueyonder) f.o.c and now my download speed reaches 128kbps, unfortunately upload is still limited to 16kbps.
They are virtually encouraging me to leech because at that upload speed I am not likely to share a lot of files!
