**PC WILL NOT START**
Ok.
I am running a program and it is doing well. It crashes. Everything freezes. Nothing Moves, no sound, no nothing. I restart. I hear the sounds of the PC starting up, it has no beep on P.O.S.T. (power on self test). It won't do anything. My dad's tried to help me out and he thinks it may be the processor.
SPECS
AMD XP 2000+
two 256ram (512 in all)
20gig hd
17' moniter
Anyone got suggestions? ALL ARE WELCOME.
Please, if you have the SLIGHTEST idea, please reply.
Thanks for your time.

To troubleshoot a no POST you start on the outside of the case and remove all connections other than the power. Turn on and listen for post beep. If you get it connect one item at a time until it stops working. That may be your problem item. If outside case does not work repeat on the inside of the case by disconnceting as many components as you can. You should still get a post beep with no drives connected. If you have more than one stick of RAM remove one at a time. If it is hardware this process can help you identify the problem item.

My heatsink patch looks like it has melted a bit and ran downward.
(We've tried disconnecting many cards.)
Recently added another 256memory
Recently installed desert combat for battlefield 1942

You should get a beep if any hardware has a problem. If nothing is beeping then it's probably the motherboard that's having the problem. When Quarath says to disconnect all the devices and the motherboard beeps on boot, then at least you know the motherboard is functioning.

Got new processor and tried old processor in another computer.
Old processor is FRIED. We got new one.
It still didnt work.
Lo-and-behold, when we took the power supply off the mobo, the plugs were melted to a crisp. We are now ordering a new mobo.
Good thing that we are smart enough to purchase things with long warrenties
We get both the processor and mobo replaced, but we are buying new ones now so I can get back playing sooner. The things that we get back from the companies will go in another computer
Thanks for the effort to help me though.

I think all Mobos should have a visual code it runs during bootup and displays via led what it is on through the process. My new one has this and it made it really easy to tell what device was being loaded when the process stopped.
