Thats waaaay too hot. Althoguh...didn't I notice the MSI boards indicated erroniously high CPU temps ???
I'm looking into it Vapor... Although right now...until I know you're temps are ok...I'd be a fool to tell you what you need to do in order to unlock / overclock your rig! ![]() Don't want you to have a toasty machine....with butter. :P |

Well I went ahead and OC'd it anyway.
Now running 2250 Mhz stable, VCore at 1.7, idle temp 42 degrees. Bad news is my RAM is running underclocked to be in sync with CPU fsb which is 150 atm. I can't progess further because I can't alter the multiplier due to lack of options in BIOS for this board. (7 - 13x in 1x increments) If i dropped multiplier to 13 and ran memory and cpu at 166 (DDR2700)would this acheive a better performance than current, even with a lower MHZ ? Or since it is only Crucial RAM would I be wise in cranking the FSB higher than 166? |

13*166 would be very similar in performance to 2250MHz the difference would be made up by the increased memory bandwidth you would get from the increased FSB.
In general for an overclock you want the highest MHz you could achieve by using the highest FSB. I would suggest this: 1) Set the multi to the lowest value. 2) Increase the FSB in increments of 5 until you get sytem instability, if you can set the ram voltage to 2.8v this is a fairly safe value any higher can be dangerous. You can also lower the timings of the RAM but if your inexperianced leave it for now. 3) Using the maximum stable value for the FSB start upping the multi. If it become unstable up the voltage by whatever increment your board gives you, for a first try set a max of 1.8V. This fairly safe any higher and you get serious temp problems on AMD systems. As a side note on intel systems above 1.75V starts to cause electron migration which tends to kill the processor but this doesn't happen in AMD as people do take the voltages up to 2.3 2.4 with the right cooling. 4) When you think you are stable run something that puts the cpu to 100% util for around 24 hours. Good programs are prime 95 seti and folding. If it crashes lower the FSB a tiny bit. Altering the FSB allows more fine tuning than changing the muti at this stage. If the system survives this test still running then the chances are you have a stable overclock and have probably pushed the CPU as far as is safe without better cooling. Hopefully that proc should be unlocked in your boards almost all t'breds and bartons were unlocked on kt400 chipsets and after. Hope it helps ![]() |

Definitely use Prime 95 for stability testing. Using seti or folding would work too but there's a chance you might be sending in incorrectly processed packets. Prime 95 can test if your processor is not returning correct results. Just because it's not crashing under load it doesn't mean it's doing its job right.
