Re: Upgrading my Mobo and Cpu...
Well..I'm still going back and forth over whether to shell out bigger bucks for CAS 2 memory instead of 2.5... I've decided to buy at newegg.com. First off the cpu comes as the retail (not the OEM) so it comes with it's original heatsink and fan. Plus there is no delivery charge. When I added up my Mwave stuff and delivery...it was only around $20 difference and left me w/o a heatsink and fan. I'd rather just have the original heatsink and fan... So if I decide (and I prolly will) to keep CAS 2.5 memory..here is my final lineup: AMD Athlon64 3200+ Retail $283 ASUS K8V Deluxe Retail $144.99 2 Sticks: Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM (CAS 2.5) $168 Grand Total: $595.99 Being able to kill Logical1 in TvT before he can even fire....PRICELESS... Prices change a few $'s either way on a daily basis....but this is the direction I'm heading...

Re: Upgrading my Mobo and Cpu...
You are paying way too much for the Asus board that really honestly doesn't offer you much of anything different other than the wireless slot.
Take a look at this and see if it does what you want: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....iteria=BA19839 MWAVE also has the same RAM you are looking at on newegg for like $.50 more... ($20.00 Mail-In MWAVE Rebate Available till 02/29/04) AOPEN AK89 MAX nVIDIA nFORCE3 150 CHIPSET ULTRA ATA133 ATX FORM FACTOR 1xAGP(8X)/5xPCI/3xDDR W/SATA,RAID,LAN(Gb),1394,USB 2.0 & AUDIO Details (AMD ATHLON 64 3200+; MWAVE COPPER PLATE FAN; NO MEMORY) $380.22 CORSAIR VS1GBKIT400 2X64X64 PC3200 2X512MB CL2.5 DDR DIMM Details $168.59 ------------------ Sub-Total: $548.81 The AOpen board is my suggestion and a damned good board... AOpen is only a name... made by Gigabyte. ![]()

Re: Upgrading my Mobo and Cpu...
Also..the Mwave price goes up to $559.92 when I factor in delivery charges (using FedEx ground shipping 5-6 business days)

Re: Upgrading my Mobo and Cpu...
Well, not to make the choice any more difficult, the ASUS board is a fine one. I only suggested the other options because they are just as good. Most people use ASUS in their tests because ASUSTek provides the boards free of charge. It is marketing. Tom's Hardware had a really good comparison between the ASUS and Gigabyte boards (which is basically the same board as the AOpen). The Gigabyte board won hands down in everything but some obscure test. The Gigabyte board is actually a better board in terms of memory and ATA thru-put than the ASUS and from a reputable manufacturer as well. Again it is simply a matter of what you prefer for what you want to spend. I figured the extra couple of bucks might let you get the CAS 2 memory you seem so set on.
EDIT: Also the AOpen board has a $20 Rebate good until the 29th of Feb via MWAVE. That covers the shipping and then some, not to mention saving $45 purchasing equivalent hardware.

Re: Upgrading my Mobo and Cpu...
most A64 boards perform the same anyway, since the memory controler is on the CPU now, the MB can make up anything... So most VIA chipset A64 boards will perform the same, its just the extras you get.
