Ok, then here you go: MEPIS (debian based live cd, easy install, not as pretty as Xandros, but same functionality)

or PCLinuxOS (Mandrake based, also a live CD, can upgrade from any mandrake release, includes Mandrake Command Center)

or Kanotix (Another Debian Live CD, tries to be bleeding edge, easy to follow installer, pretty much does everything but the dishes-also makes a killer rescue cd)

There are many other Linux distros, but these I have all personally tested and approve of. Great for a quick, easy, functional office/multimedia desktop, with a minimum of fuss.

My favorites are slackware based distros like Vector, SLAX, or Frugalware.

They all are a bit quicker than RPM or Deb based distros, but require much more hands on work to administer.

My thoughts on Xandros are, if its that big of a headache to get it to do what you want it to do.....guess what? Distrowatch has 350 other options.

Re: xandros media player

I forgot - openoffice included in the os install is a must too.

But I didn't. The only one of the above that doesn't include Open Office (1.13 or 1.14) is Slax, which probably wouldn't work for you anyway.
