It does not have to be new, but not too old either. I'd prefer it not be action. I like RPG and strategy (but not RTS) and wargames, but am open to anything.

I want something I can play by myself.

Is Rome:Total War too much action? The campaign strategy is by far more time consuming that the action battles, and you can auto-resolve the battles if you're not interested.

Anyone played Sid Meier's Pirates? I was thinking about picking that up...

The new pirates is pretty sweet, same old pirates with some new features.

New things:
Sneaking into town mini game.
Dancing with Govern's Daughter
Its 3d
Upgrades for your ship. (Certain things make you shoot farther, more accuratly, move your ship faster, turn faster, etc.etc.)
More strategy during the sea battles. (Grape shot for killing soldiers on enemy boat, Chain shot for destroying the mask, Round shot for destroying the hull.)
And a few more things i probably forgot about.

All in all, exact same game, with some new things.

Gese, i think he named all of the games on the market now . anyway, i liked the Age of Empires series and then the Age of Mithology was neat because you could create these monsters and pick gods to worship and gain special powers. i also really liked the Empire Earth series because that gets more in depth of ages from the stone age to way futuristic. there are about 15 diffrent ages you can advance through in one skirmish!! its alot and will keep u bussy. I also really liked the demo for the new Empire Earth II game. Major graphic and gameplay updates and citizen manager lets you micromanage youre empire.

Silent Storm is a good strategy game similar to Fallout or maybe more like Fallout: Tactics but turn-based. It's got destructible environments and lots of different weapons.

Sacrifice is a.. what, 4 year old or some such? Anyway, it's an action/strategy game.

It's an acid trip too. Totally reccomended. If you dont have a problem with RTS elements, that is. Also, in the same boat are ALL the Front Mission games. Good god those are gaming goodness.

Civilization and "the information superhighway" are the two reasons why I purchased my first computer. I remember a buddy in 29 Palms letting me play Civ on his computer in the barracks in 1993. He went to sleep. His alarm went off so that we could go PT at 0530 and I was still playing...

Have you ever played BlackNova Trading? It's an online space trading game (i think the original was Trade Wars...or something like that) so you play with other people in a sense, but on your own, if you see what i mean.

You build up your ship by trading around a 3, 6 or 10,000 point galaxy, building planet and defenses etc. If you get into it, it can be as addictive as CS, ie; online crack.

Maybe it's not quite what you're looking for, but i thought i'd suggest it all the same.
