Re: Setting up a home network

Not working. Both cards (in my machine and the laptop) say cable is unplugged even though I have it plugged in. As soon as I plug in the internet cable, the card status changes to enabled.

Switch the cable, same problem. Went through the internet wizard and didn't do any good. Even entered IPs manually and no improvement.

Internet Protocal (TCP/IP)
IP 192.168.0.1 for my computer
IP 192.168.0.2 for the laptop
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1

Oh, yeah... Forgot. You have to tip a crossover cable (or buy one...).

*sigh* if I have to do that, I might as well just buy a router then since I will have to go out and buy the crossover cable

Re: Setting up a home network

I ended up buying a router when I was at Best Buy. Got the Linsys router that allows both wireless and traditional connections so that I wouldn't have to buy a wireless card for my pc.

Re: Setting up a home network

Were you plugging the two machines directly in to one another??? Can't do that without a special crossover cable.

Yeah, I know that now

Since I had to get a special crossover cable, I went ahead and purchased a router. I was hoping to connect the computers without having to buy anything special to do so.
