New Monitor

My curved 19" CRT is going down the crapper fast. It's given me almost 4 years of loyal service, so it's time to retire it.

Now, here's the deal: I'm going to buy a View Sonic True-Flat. The only question is do I go with the 19" or 21?"

The 19" runs about $240 and has flawless quality.
The 21" runs about $460 and has flawless quality and a massive picture. They also say it will increase my sex appeal by triple! Unfortunately, my calculator still comes up with 0.

Anyone own a 21" and could tell me if it's worth almost double the price?

Re: New Monitor

What are the resolutions for both and the hz @ each resolution?
Can your video card handle comfortably all those resolutions at that fps for all the games you play?

Do you have the desk space? How else could you spend that $220, or do you want to indulge it on this now?

Re: New Monitor

My attitude has always been to splurge on the monitor. It has a longer life span than any other component save your keyboard. micr0c0sm is 100% right about the video card abilities. I will say I have owned a Viewsonic 21" P815 for 7 years and it is still running as my kids puter monitor.

19" = 1920x1440 @ 64Hz
21" = 2048x1536 @ 68Hz

My Watercooled 6600 GT can "OMG PWN TEH MONITOR!"

It shouldn't have any issues with this monitor.

Easy.

For $220 bucks I could buy around 18 cartons of cigarettes. Money really isn't the issue. The issue is if it's worth the money for 2 more inches of viewable space. I've seen a 21" in action. It's nice, but I've never gamed on one.

EDIT: Fixed the resolution specs.

Re: New Monitor

I love my 21" monitor... It is easily worth it. But it is a *bear* to transport (to a LAN or something). I have a spare 17" I take with me to events.

My 19" is a pain in the neck to move. I bought a refurb 17" for 50 bucks for LAN parties. Great minds I guess.

So, you are pleased with the performance of your 21"? Is it a perfect flat? You mind shooting me the model number?

Re: New Monitor

I've been using a widescreen LCD for several months and I'll never go back. My next purchase will probably be something similar to this baby.

I agree that your monitor should be a big investment. It's like the speakers for your stereo: it's the component that you most directly interact with, and therefore should be your biggest single investment.
