Re: Connection Error.

When a traceroute shows 100% loss/no response at an intermittent hop but continues to resolve and return results on subsequent hops, it usually means the intermittent hop is dropping ICMP packets (on purpose). If it truly were "not responding" it wouldn't pass your trace through to the next hop. Dropping ICMP is not uncommon on the Internet, and occurs if the site is set up to do this.

Re: Connection Error.

Actually this happens to me too. I get enormous lag spikes and just stand there. The worse thing is that I can still HEAR what is going one (well not the action just the voice communication in game, outside coms are lag out).

Waiting sometimes brings me back... but other times I hate to reset my model. The problem fluxuates all the time so I don't know when or how often it will occur. No one has been able to fix it and I feel as though I am doomed.

I am actually a CSS player, but I know this would happen if I played BF2 also.

Actually I looked into that and that might be the source. I've tried several things to drop the ICMP packets but to no avail. Are you suggesting I need to accept them? If you can tell me how to stop these lag spikes... I will be so happy

No, I meant the remote system you are pinging or tracerouting is dropping the packets, not you. Whether you accept or ignore ICMP requests is unlikely to have any effect on your lag.

Oh.... Well that might explain it... Now what do I do? Any ideas?

Re: Connection Error.

Unfortunately, not really. I was just trying to help you interpret the results.

Re: Connection Error.

I too have been getting this error. It started last night.
Every 20-30 sec's I'll get "Connection errror" and pop back after about 5 secs.
Sometimes it doesn't give me the connection error message, but I 'rubber-band' around the place. Meaning, i'll be moving, and all of a sudden revert back to a former position. Not really helpful when driving or piloting a chopper/plane. Hard to hit targets too.

It's all intermittent and seems somewhat random.
I also have this problem playing CS 1.6 so I didn't think it was strictly a BF2 issue.
Hence why i'm here researching a fix. It's terribly irritating and I can't play games.
I've notice'd it on every BF2 server i've tried so I don't think it's a server side issue.
I've updated my video/audio drivers and that has no effect. I've cleaned my registry, done virus scans and talked with my internet provider. They claim there's no issue on thier end and i'm not losing packets.

So what in the hell is going on? Obviosuly i'm not the only one with the issue. And it can't be just a BF2 issue cause it's happening to me in CS 1.6 and others have said they have issues with CS:Source.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

i used to have connection issues on 42, the cause was my wireless internet connection, with a wire the problems went away

Re: Connection Error.

Not exactly sure...

But I have a cordless phone on my desk that i'd just installed a week ago. Apparently when I moved it across the room, my connection cleared up. I'm still doing extensive testing, and i've heard of it hosing DSL....apparently cable is at risk too.

So if you have choppy internet play, try moving a cordless phone.
