Re: Graphics card and lag...
Your celeron processor will be a severe bottleneck... it is not recommended for gaming. Your CPU and vid compliment each other. If you have the cash, I recommend going the AMD 64bit route. 3200+ or higher is a decent bang for buck.
Your screen staying white for a long period after loading the map is definitely a video memory problem. I hope you're not playing on high textures. 2gb system ram is necessary to run high textures smoothly. 64mb video memory isn't going to help either. As for a video card recommendation, check out newegg.com - I've seen several 256mb x800 Pro cards at or around ~$200 (~120 pounds). You'll only perform as fast as the weakest link in your system. Right now that seems to be just about everything. See about getting rid of the Celery CPU, throwing in two sticks of 512mb DDR400 or better, and getting the decent vid card. This may require a new motherboard in the process... so... heh, you're looking at an entire system. ![]()

Re: Graphics card and lag...
check your motherboard for AGP compatability, this is measured in speed ratings (2x 4x or 8x) then check out come of the mid budget GFX cards to match,
HDD isnt an absolute must for gaming (unless you want LOTS of games on your PC at once) by the term 1mb Ram i presume you mean 1Gb/ if so then that sounds good, but check your motherboard can handle it, your posts are indicating that your machine is a little old and technology is zooming along so even a few years can make things obsolete. as for GFX im using a Radeon 9600 comfortably with BF2 all settings on medium with 100% view thingy. it might be worth your time looking to the middle range 'gaming' machines and take a step up the PC ladder, some good rigs are quite cheap (about £350) which compared to the various bits you want to upgrade to is probably a better bargin as you'd get more for your money. i can send a few links via PM if you'd like to look at some. hope this helps. |

Re: Graphics card and lag...
First things first, check if your motherboard has an AGP slot. Alot of motherboards with integrated video from large companies like HP or Dell won't have an AGP slot. If you don't have an AGP slot then you're pretty much out of luck for going with an upgrade.

Re: Graphics card and lag...
Get Everest and post your motherboard specs, or atleast the model number. I'd get a 9800Pro if your motherboard is AGPx8, that'll be around a ton.
