Re: spy ware.

The best program for spy ware and a pop up blocker. It helps me a lot I don’t get pop up when surfing the web. And the spy ware program eTrust Pest Patrol it remove every spy ware in your system.

Yes I am anal about it. I am every 3 months or so. It is always nice to run on a "clean" system. It's amazing how much crap Windows collects.

Re: spy ware.

Popup blockers just mask the root issue, typically, and are not effective as an antispyware/antimalware solution.

I daresay none of the current solutions can achieve "best" status, because they all miss stuff. Gathering opinions from those combatting this garbage daily, such as those in the security forum at www.broadbandreports.com, can get you a good non-biased perspective on the tools available (many of them free and better than what you pay for).

Yep, you had a couple viruses in there, so that's not surprising. Post your Hijack This log when you feel things are cleaned up so we can double check

When I was doing tech support for my school's housing department it seemed like 70% of my calls were spyware related. I got so that I'd do most of the removals via Hijack This because it was faster than Ad Aware or whatever. You'd be surprised at the amount of crap that kids in dorms on high speed connections for the first time get on their computers. Everyone had the ability to download Symantic Corporate AV for free from the school, but most never bothered.. then complained about all the infections and crap. I even had one grad student / professor in the on-campus apartments that I had to visit a few times... He claimed to be a human sexuality professor and all the crap was leftover from his "research." Uh huh.

This is adware. Did you remove it before? If so, it's back.

This seems like Look2Me now that I look closer. This one can be a real pain in the ass to remove, especially if it's a newer variant. Here's someone else's recent fight against it, maybe it'll give you some ideas if you don't have any luck: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=71488

Keep the HJT logs coming, we'll get ya cleaned up

Re: spy ware.

To get rid of spyware on my system I use a combination of Spybot, AdAware SE, and Microsoft Antispyware.

All 3 are free and very good programs. One program sometimes picks up things another program didnt catch.

Reformatting once a year is probably a good idea, but its not very convenient

Your best bet is to use a combination of some of the programs mentioned in this thread. No one program is going to solve your problem. I personally rarely get any spyware.
