Re: I think this is the final comp, DONT CHANGE IF NOT NEEDED TY

Lemme cut through the extra junk and see what you have...

NEC 3540 DVDRW
Seagate 7200.8 250GB SATA drive
NZXT Trinity BLK case w/ 400W (assumed generic) power supply
ECS KN1 SLI nForce4 motherboard
AMD Athlon64 San Diego 4000+
AOpen 6800GT 256MB PCI Express
Mushkin SP3200 1GB PC3200 RAM
Audigy 2 ZS Gamer

Codegen 2.1 speakers
Acer AL1716 17" LCD
XP Home

Does that sound right? Some comments:

Great choices on the DVDRW and harddrive.

I can't tell, do you have 2 of those video cards selected? I'd go for 1 7800GTX instead, but that's just me. I would not trust a 400W generic power supply to run 2 6800GT's, if that's what you have selected.

I know nothing about that motherboard.

The processor is great.

Do you have 2 sticks of RAM selected? Again, can't tell through the mess.

Again, I'd go for a Creative X-Fi card instead of the Audigy 2. You're getting the latest and greatest for everything else, why not the sound card too?

Re: I think this is the final comp, DONT CHANGE IF NOT NEEDED TY

SLI systems are a: Not worth it currently, and b: too power hungry. I wouldn't run a 6800GT SLI on any PSU not specifically designed to handle them (and there are currently all of two good ones, one of which is 200+ by itself).

You're crazy if you think you're going to get a quality power supply for under $45.

All you'll get for that amount is a cheap piece of junk that may or may not work for a year or so...

I would go with something like this: Antec TruePower 2.0 TP2-550 EPS12V ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail - nVIDIA SLI Certified

Re: I think this is the final comp, DONT CHANGE IF NOT NEEDED TY

The best SLI power supply available:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703001

What I would buy:
OCZ Powerstream 520W (~$100)

Simply put, if you go cheap on the power supply, not only will the PSU likely die on you, but it will probably take out a significant amount of your expensive computer parts with it. and many warranties *do not cover stuff that's broken by faulty hardware/incompatability*
A friend of mine found that out the hard way. System hit by lightning, PSU didn't have proper surge protection, fried his mobo, cpu, GPU, hdd's. I've had a system with a good PSU get hit by lightning and just lost the PSU.

Look at it like this, you're going to spend mucho dollars on all that high end equipment, and you're going to skimp on the part that provides power to all of it?

What I'd really do is dump the SLI, and get a single 7800GT with this PSU:

Re: I think this is the final comp, DONT CHANGE IF NOT NEEDED TY

Nec Burner model ND-3540A black oem - $44.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152047
Black Trinity Case - $104.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146015
Seagate 250GB sata HDD - $96
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16822148065R
ECS Mobo - $117.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135203
Audigy2 Gamer - $77 (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102171
AMD64 San Deigo 4000+ $368
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103529
Aopen 6800GT - $268 (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814135171
Codgen 2.1 speakers $42.87
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836135003
2GB Mushkin PC3200 ram - $219.64
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146190
Viewsonic VX724 Monitor - $311.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116359

That's your *exact* system. Total Cost Shipped from Newegg:
$1,651.47

That would easily give you enough money to buy a good quality PSU for $100 and upgrade to a 7800GT and buy a retail copy of XP home and still be short of your $2000 spending limit.
As for warranties, the CPU, Graphics Card, Sound Card, Monitor, speakers, Ram, and motherboard are all covered by manufacturers warranties (3 year in most cases) and the rest is covered by Newegg's 90-day DOA replacement warranty.

Granted, you'd have to do the assembly yourself. But I don't think it'd be that hard for you to do, or find a friend knowledgable in doing so to help you do it.

Just letting you know what all of the options that are out there are.

And on a side note, the OEM version of XP they ship you is only good for the PC it's shipped on, and is invalid if you replace certain core parts (XP refuses to boot when you change the motherboard. You can get around that, but it's a pain)
Whereas if you buy a retail copy of xp home, you can have it installed on any 1 PC that you own at any point for the rest of your life.

Re: I think this is the final comp, DONT CHANGE IF NOT NEEDED TY

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129155 - that'd probably be my chocie if I were building a system tomorrow. Antec Sonata II w/ 450W power supply. SLI ain't my thing. I have a Sonata (not Sonata II) and love it.

If I had money to spare, Antec P180 and a Seasonic S12 power supply. But I like quiet stuff.

Lemme rephrase my statement about generic power supplies. I would not trust a generic power supply -- SLI or not. A $30 500W unit is NOT one that I would trust..

I'm not current on the LCD's.. I do like my Dell 2001FP.

Cheap wattage doesn't count. I'd rather have a good 480w PSU than a cheap million watt PSU.

LCD? Space isn't a premium on my desk, and I don't go to LAN parties anymore, so I have no need to pay more for an LCD than I would for a CRT. Dollar for dollar, you're going to get a bigger and better image from a CRT.

Sound card? It's very good, but it's not high-end like the rest of your stuff. You'll be satisfied with it, though, I'm sure.

Spyder gives you good advice on ordering from www.NewEgg.com and building your own.
