Re: First Components of my new Rig.
Keep in mind that a lot of motherboards support "dual channel" now, which means that a pair of memory sticks will be much faster than any other combination. If you can afford it, I'd go with two 1 gig sticks to prepare for future memory-hungry games. Heck, BF2 will devour 2 gigs easily...

Re: First Components of my new Rig.
I have that Mobo and it is dual channel. I would just pick up 2 gigs of Corsair's Valueselect RAM so you get the extra mem space. Same chips and a little more than half the price, can't beat that.
I'd get two of these_____________________

Re: First Components of my new Rig.
you have some fine equipment there...
Have you thought about the WD Raptor...
I put one in on the gaming rig I built this past summer.

It's a bit more money but the speed is just awesome
I use this drive for my games and OS and another larger but a little slower drive for my media.
Oh and by the by...I have an asus a8v deluxe...with a via chipset...not good with ATI cards
I've got the EVGA 6800GT, 2Gbs of corsair value select ram and a athlon 3800+ skt 939 chip...runs BF2 llike butter.
If you can swing the extra hundred for the raptor go for it|TG-1st|Grunt

Re: First Components of my new Rig.
Nice setup. Wish i could get a Raptor in addition to my big drive but another gig of RAM would do me better. I wouldn't get the Raptor as your only drive though, too small. As for chipset, Nforce 4 makes me happy.

Re: First Components of my new Rig.
It's because the 1GB chips (last I checked) aren't yet out with tighter timings.. I don't quite understand all the timings myself. So 2GB of high quality 512MB stuff may run faster than 2GB of 1GB sticks. There's other stuff to take in to consideration too, of course. When you look at memory, look for the CAS rating.. 2 is good, 2.5 OK, 3 is slow.. Then there's other ratings, so you'll see stuff like 2-2-2-5 or 2-3-3-7 or some other combination. Basically, the lower the better when you look at those timings. For BF2, I'd go with 2GB in whatever way you can afford it.. 4 512's, 2 gig sticks.. BF2 loves RAM!

Looks like you've got a pretty solid system picked out Anubis. Order the parts and let us know how you like it!

Re: First Components of my new Rig.
I run my 2 160GB Seagates in RAID0 mode and that is very fast. Almost twice as fast as running only one. This really speeds up loading. I typically see 1:40 min until the game starts in BF2 between TG rounds.
