X800 GT, worth the upgrade?

Hey guys,

Just looking for a vid card upgrade for my birthday and found this for £150:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...ory_oid=-25014

Just to give you some price comparison the 7800 GTX is something around £330

Is this X800 GT worth it? I mean will i get high settings and nice AA with it, or is it a bad card?

Current specs:

Intel P4 3.2 GHz
1 Gig ram (i know for all high ill need another gig)
X600 128MB
Realtek HD Audio Sound

All settings are on medium, 800x600 2xAA and I get around 35-40fps.

Thanks, just tryna do my research

Re: X800 GT, worth the upgrade?

X800GT is ATI's competitor to the 6600GT. Both are solid budget solutions for the consumer who wants to play all the latest games but accepts that various settings will not be at their highest, resolution will have to be mid range, and AA likely no more than 2X. For full performance statistics see this article:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2540

Whether this card is for you will depend on how high you want/need your settings to be. If your looking for a card that will run solid with every BF2 graphic option set to high then your going to need something like a 7800GT or ATI equivalent.

800x600 with 2x AA? =/ You should play in a higher rez with no AA...800x600 is tiny.

why not a 7800gt?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...0__Series.html

the best bang for the buck card right now, as cheap at £210 for the basic card and it owns everything but the bleeding edge of cards.

Go and check out http://www.custompc.co.uk/
select reviews archive from the menu on the left then graphics cards from the central menu, now change the drop down to reviews in the last 3 months and you will see a decent selection of cards within your price range. Click on the ones you are interested in and read the detailed review.
There are some good cards out there for under £200 quid.

Have you looked at crucial.co.uk?
Depending on if you overclock or not will dictate the type of ram you require, if you dont just buy some good value ram from them. It has a lifetime guarantee i believe.

Dont forget to look at the 6800gs too. Its cheaper for comparable performance.

Re: X800 GT, worth the upgrade?

I would go with a 6800GS or, if you're willing to go for the cash, anything in the 7800 line. They really, truly outperform ATI's cards by such a significant margin that it's definitely worth it to go with nVidia. The 6800GS is a wonderful card, but, of course, the 7800s are a step above since they're a generation ahead.

I think am gunna go for the 7800 GT, looks good.

Is it ok though to switch from an ATI Card to Nvidia,
does it cause any problems?
