    Video Card Help ....

    OK,

I have around $300 to spend and i wanted to maybe upgrade my video card.

    I am currently running a x800xl 256MB AGP card.

Now, My motherboard also supports PCI-E so I wanted to upgrade a PCI-E.

My Question is, what would be the best card for the money ?

    7800GT ?
    X850XT ?

Your advice would be helpful and appreciated since I feel that I am out of the loop on video cards ...

It depends on what type of 7800GT you want as well. There are a few flavours and if you check this site out
    http://www.custompc.co.uk/
just type 7800GT into search and scroll down to the reviews bit and read.
There should also be reviews for X850 as well.
    Good Luck

I think the EVGA has the best bang for the buck Gixxer. I would stay away from the pn515. You can get a pn516 which comes from the factory at a core clock of 485mhz and a memory clock of 1100 I believe. Newegg is about the best place to get one. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Edit: EVGA also offers a very good warranty

At $300 you just can't beat the 7800GT. I personally only buy EVGA when I buy nVidia, I've had nothing but good luck and good support with them.

I have the XFX 7800GT for $299 and it works fine. I overclocked it to 485/1180 with no adverse results.
I read that nvidia has not a very good video playback though but videos look good to me...
Check out the performance reviews on tomshardware.com e,g, http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/...ii/page14.html where thh 7800GT does 34fps and the x800xl 24fps.

    Re: Video Card Help ....

No ATI card has beaten NVidia in the 7000 series until the X1900. Anything below that, and you're better off buying an NVidia 7800 card that is around the same cost as ATI.

    Re: Video Card Help ....

So I guess my question would be ....

Do you think it is beneficial to go from the X800XL AGP card to the 7800GT PCI-E card for the $300 ?

I do plan on selling off my X800XL ( which is only about 5 months old ) and my 9700pro card to offset the cost a little ...

    What do you think ?

Here is your answer, loud and clear

    Anandtech review

19 FPS difference at 1600 x 1200 with no AA and 10FPS with 4xAA. Now if you run at a lower resolution, you won't notice as big of a difference, but it'll still be better.

If that is the correct link then your comparing the card to a x800XT...he has a x800XL. So the difference will be a little bigger but your last sentence there is still appropriate I would say.

If your happy with your current card gixxer I would keep the XL around a while longer. Unless your trying to run at a really high res I would think that card would be performing quite well? The jump from the x800xl to the 7800gt would not be worth $300 imo. However if your selling off your old card it would be much easier to swallow.

I'm feeling a little itchy ... I know it is more .. but worth it ?

I am getting about 55-60 FPS in BF2 right now with settings on HIGH except for basically the SHADOWS and Some textures on Medium.

AA is 2X and view distance is at 100%

I have an AMD 64 3700+ (San Diego ) and 2 GB of CORSAIR RAM
