Re: Physics Cards are out?/PPU info.
alot of things change after betas
the point of this card is for simple bench testing and to see it work.... with this case it means they do not need to make two cards, when one will do. The card had loads of jumpers on it to switch modes, as well was a power molex that would be blocked in a "normal" case when installed in a PCIexpress slot.

Re: Physics Cards are out?/PPU info.
So many people thought I was crazy when I brought this up over a year ago (not here of course). I've been following Ageias struggles with this for awhile now - can't wait.
Keep in mind - Unless something has changed - the game or simulation you are running must be Physx enabled for it to work to its fully advertised effect.

Re: Physics Cards are out?
yes, it would be cool, but has anyone else noticed that game developers dont seem to care about AI anymore? its more about multiplayer.....which is fine in some ways, because multiplayer is good..... but....multiplayer can also be bad.. unless you can game at a place like TG 24/7

Physics processing unit. (PPU) is to be relesed on the 1st of May!
A new physics processing unit is going to be released on May 1st (it is already offered on high-ends from Dell, ALienware, and Falcon NW). Designed by http://physx.ageia.com/, it will be run on 128 GDDR3 and I personally think it will be the next GPU (if it lives up to the hype). It will be $300 on release, but like graphics cards that price is exspected to drop.
One of the supported games on release will be GR:AW which from their side-by-side comparison video looks awesome. Think Havok physics on steroids. Don't forget to check out their site.
PS- I know i sound like i'm trying to sell it, but it really does look sweet. The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

Re: Physics Cards are out?/PPU info.
I saw an article (sry i can't find it) where a HL2 designer basically supporting this new PPU because it is doing "physics that matter" whereas nVidia is making "pretty" physics. Personally, I'd rather have 10,000 pieces of flying shrapnal than having 1,000 pieces of really nice looking shrapnal. Plus if nVidia does that physics it will become like a GPU where you have to replace frequently. Aiega (the other PPU maker) is making most of their card from very "flexible" software, where they can keep cards relevant much longer. I really don't want this to become another our of control GPU "space race".
