It's saying invalid setup because you cleared all the setup settings..

Hitting F2 while the Dell logo is on the screen should get you in to the setup..

For future reference, here are instructions on clearing the NVRAM (the BIOS.. those settings) without taking the computer apart:

    Restart your computer.

At the first text on the screen or at the Dell logo, press the <F2> key every three seconds until the message Entering Setup appears.
    The System Setup screen appears.

Press the <Caps Lock> key, the <Scroll Lock> key, and the <Num Lock> key to light up all three lights on the keyboard.

Press the <Alt> and <E> keys at the same time.
The system will emit a beep tone to indicate that NVRAM has been cleared.

Press the <Esc> key, and then press the <Enter> key to save the changes and reboot the system.

Proceed with the installation or troubleshooting that you were attempting.
Taken from this page which I found by Googling: dell 8300 setup key.

Re: Replaced memory modules...now computer won't boot

    Got it!!! Finally....

My problem Perry, as I wrote above, was that I attempted to replace memory modules and it would not boot up to desktop and I couldn't get it to setup or bios by pressing f2. It just got stuck while in post (I believe that's what you call it...also got stuck where it explained bios and gave that message) Tried a lot of combinations over the last couple of days. Then, based on advice I attempted to clear CMOS. Finally I gave up, shut it off and left it. Came back late tonite and if that darn thing didn't kick in. But I'm going to try some better Corsair modules instead of those cheap G.Skill sticks. I've learned that Dell is very picky about the type of memory used. Do you have a Dell Perry? If you do know a lot about them maybe you could help guide me through this memory replacement when I get the Corsair from Newegg. Do you have teamspeak?

I appreciate the help from both of you guys.... the Dell forum was a waste.

Just stick with Crucial Memory for a Dell and you might want to flash your Bios to the newer version.
