And also tell us when you start getting the crackling and popping from your lovely X-Fi.

I just really hate this card.

Yeah, I was wondering asch why you are going with a sound card and not just using the mobo onboard? I can't find much detail on the ADI AD1988B but I would think 8 channels should do ok for most apps.

If that's the case, I'll be sending it back. I tried to google anything about issues with those cards and didn't find anything. Most problems were solved with drivers.

I did just find this report though.

Re: Building new rig: Core 2 Duo + nvidia

A few bumps but so far everything is running and installing ok. I tested BF2 last night on a public server. I had the video options set to the max running at 1280x1024 and FRAPS put me at 100 FPS... with the occasional dip down to 80.

I haven't had any issues with my X-Fi xtrememusic either.

Everytime I do a full rebuild like this I tend to take my time to make sure the parts are in the best position for airflow, cables are at a minimum, etc. The part I really really hate is putting the thermal paste and cpu fan on. It seems those went ok though. My cpu idles at 25C degrees.

I almost went with the gx2 but figured I would be upgrading to one of the nvidia 8-series cards using the evga step-up program. Those cards should be out very very soon.

Congrats on the new rig Asch!! TravelinWilbury helped me put together a new rig...building rigs is his sort of thing, not so much mine...and he was way too casual with the thermal paste...I was stressing but he was cool as could be

Anyway, it's very pleasing when all comes up in happy state, and the smoke doesn't get out

BTW...I did end up with the 7950 GX2 and have been pretty happy with it. I have to check out the step-up program as well...but we'll see.

Anyway, enjoy the new rig. Hope it makes you even more lethal on the field...it didn't help me though, my twitch still sucks

Cheers,

I believe all you have to do is register your card. The 90 days is from your purchase date so you'll need a receipt most likely. Read through the step-up program and read through the T&Cs and the FAQs. I haven't looked at it since I purchased my card. I'm waiting to see what evga comes out with in the nvidia 8-series cards.

Re: Building new rig: Core 2 Duo + nvidia

Very nice system. You went a bit higher on a few of the specs than I did (better MB and Video Card), but otherwise our new setups are very similar. I love my setup as I can run any current FPS game with max everything without worrying about frames.

There's a customer support link or RMA link that you go to. You'll be able to see your registered video card and initiate a step-up. You can start one just to see what cards are available or check how much time you have left for the step-up.
