Re: Need help picking out a video card, please :-)

I'm not sure what the exact consequences of insufficient power would be. My thoughts were always system instability but nothing serious that would damage hardware. Maybe it's safe to buy the card first and see if there is any instability that a PSU upgrade can fix. Of course, any instability could be a result of some other problem but a PSU upgrade would eliminate that possibility.

Re: Need help picking out a video card, please :-)

I have ran my GF6800Ultra on a 250 watt powersupply. The only thing I noticed was horrible performance. I'm guessing the card throttles down on insufficient wattage. However I would be carefull.... at least check with the retailer of the card if there is any danger to the card when running it on a 300w powersupply.

I got a 420 W power supply, and the 7900 GS. And, I am up and running on BF2142.

Thanks for the help everyone!

It's actually slower in core and memory clock speeds.. is that not a big deal?
number of pixel pipes beats the clock speed for all shader intensive games, aka current and future games
