Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

EVGA partnered with a case manufacturer and came out with an "UltraBox"..it has the evga SLI micro board with a bad ass 550 watt power supply in a awesome little micro case for $150..get a 4600+ AMD X2 for another $125 and then $200 for memory...i have little 7600gs 3D fuzion PCIE card that is now down to like $75 (it rocks for now) and a $70 SATA drive and man..you are rockin..lots of burners for $30 ish out there as well...

that puts you into a really decent "new era" system for $700 or less if you have the OS...

the little 7600GS card will hold me till the 8800 type cards come down in price and the driver issues are all worked out with DX10...

anyways..just my input..it works very well for me in 2142 and most of my setting are on medium and a few on high

alright...after searching around...how the heck does someone know what a "good" power supply is?

Got a brand name or two in your head?

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

Tybalt just turned me onto PC Power & Cooling:
http://www.pcpower.com/products/

Looks like a very interesting company! I actually took a brief look at their 1KW power supply due to the excessive amount of drives that I have in my machine and the potential desire to do SLI/Crossfire on top of that.

Personally, I've been buying Enermax power supplies and have not had any issues at all. My latest power supply was the Enermax Liberty ELT500AWT 500 Watt power supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194003

I love the modular design as I only have to plug in as many power cables as necessary for my PC configuration. It saves me from having to bundle up all the un-used cables and hide them somewhere in the case so as to not interfere with proper airflow.

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

OMFG..!!! $599 FOR A POWER SUPPLY..!!!!! BUST WOW..1000WATTS..!~!

that would be sweet..

i also like the enermax brand as well..you can easily get a 500 watt+ power supply for under $100 with some shopping..

i have several Raidmax brand that i have had no problems with and they are all 550-watts + and are pretty inexpensive...Antec is another name to look for..good quality stuff there..and available at places like Best Buy and CompUSA as well..

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

I have that very same case. I'm quite pleased with it.

I'm a big fan of CoolerMaster cases as their tooling seems to be a bit more precise than Lian-Li. I did have a Lian-Li PC85 prior to my current CoolerMaster, but before trying out Lian-Li, I had an older CoolerMaster case.

Ah, but the Core 2 Duos wipe the floor with AMD X2 chips.

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

Lets face it, whomever is on top is there for a while, then the other sneaks up and dethrones for a while. Its back and forth and I gotta hand to AMD, they took on the giant and became the cpu of choice for many many people.

Its like Chevy vs Ford...blah blah blah!

Now..who has the nuts and uhm $$ to take on Microsoft?????

This is why, if you're on a budget, you shouldn't buy based on brand. You should pick which ever part is best for your needs/budget.

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

Hehe, so you may go back to intel. At this point, intel has the performance/price advantage with their core 2 duos.

Re: Yet another Upgrade Question

Mot, if you're going to upgrade to a directx10 card in the new year, how about this card, a 7600GT, for the time being:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143049

It's $79 after mail in rebate, a slightly more powerful version of the card birdie has, and it should hold you over until cards like the 8800 become affordable to those on a tighter budget.
