The new ATI cards coming March should be faster than the current Nvidia cards, but you can't always be looking at the next card either or you'll never buy anything since there is always something faster right around the corner.

The R600 should be equivilant to about an XBOX 360 which is probably at best on-par with the 8800. Now, the R680,and R700 which will be coming out very closly to the R600 is probably the real response to the 8800. If the R600 was truly faster then the 8800 they wouldn't be releasing there next gen of cards so quickly after the first batch.
