the 7950 gt ko is 200 and something bucks, its in by buget range right now cause im gettin a new 19 monitor also to replace this 15" lcd im using.

ill look at the 8800 and or ati's when they get 1 out and go from there. hell i believe the only drivers out for the 8800's and vista are beta drivers right now. nvidia hasnt even came out with drivers for vista have they???
I thought you did your research.

The 8800's can very much be used to the fullest without vista but you can't play games in Direct X 10 without vista. The 8800's work better then every card available at the DX9 level.

If your getting a new monitor i reccomend a widescreen newegg has some for about 250$ 20 inches and runs at a good resolution of 1680 x 1050

Re: ok in 2 weeks

I would not even dare to compare the bugs in any 7900 series card to a 8800 series. My 8800gtx is flawless compared to the 5, count them 5 7900gtx I had to RMA to get one that did not artifact.

Re: ok in 2 weeks

well lets put it this way, i dont have the money for a 8800. gs, gt, g whatever lol...... i have a budget i have to stay within. theres been a couple big write ups on the 8800 biatchin about the driver support for them and vista. ima gona have this system for awhile and when the times right ill get a 8800 or 2 who knows but as for right now i just think its to early to buy 1. nvidia hyped these cards up so much and now that vista's out they are not prepared to support the cards. i read somewhere MAYBE by the end of february they might have something but no promises.

for what im doing right now the 7950 gt ko will work just fine.

hell im just happy im gettin a new system after 5 years with this 1

Just remember when you get your system, assuming that you are still going Vista, to install the 8800 drivers for you card. I have a 7800GTX and the 8800 drivers work a lot better then the 7000 series drivers. But check and see if they updated the 7000 series drivers first, if they are the 97.46 version, go with the 8800 driver.

will 2 gig of mem be enough for vista???? ive seen where they says its a mem hog....

and yes ill check before i update drivers, are you talking the unified drivers for all nvidia cards or just the 8800 series????

i have a week before the $$$$$ rolls in so ima gona call the builder 3 days before hand so he has time to get the parts and the monitor so i can just walk in and pick it up man i cant wait ima 40 year kid in a candy store

2 gig is good. make sure you have space to upgrade to 4 in the future though.

Vista is a very good operating system. Just the drivers aren't mature enough at the moment. I'd recommend jumping on the Vista train, unless you use a lot of old software or certain applications that are not Vista compatible at the moment.

Re: ok in 2 weeks

No, do not get Vista now. The recommendation your system builder has is actually a good. I would wait atleast 6 month for vista to become a stablet platform. Also, Vista just had a update released last Tuesday for 6 read that SIX Zero day events. There were also numeruous updates for XP so you might want to run a custom search on the Windows Update page.

Back to Vista. SLI does not at this time work on Vista. Does that mean it will not work in teh future. I am sure that both Nvidia and Microsoft are working towards a unified driver for enabling SLI. Though by the time you are ready to upgrade from the 7950 to a better card. Nvidia will probably have a card to trump the 8800GTX and relegate most other cards to oblivion.

Regarding the Vista upgrade coupon. Note that this terminates your XP key for all time when you upgrade. You will never be able to get that key back to reinstall XP in case you don't like Vista. Lame... You better believe it!
I plan on getting a new HD and installing the OEM version of Ultimate which can be purchased for $250 US dollars rather than the Upgrade that retails for $400. Then dual booting from now on. Swapping to either platformtill XP is no longer supported.

More to come as I am gonna eat dinner....

Re: ok in 2 weeks

so what your saying isssssssssssss add another HD buy a full version of vista ult. and load the entire thing onto a new HD that way you will have both and just boot the one you wana use... so if ya buy a full version you dont lose your XP version at all???? so basicly you dont have to have XP on the hard drive your loading Vista onto this way. and yes im waiting 3-6 months for microsoft to straiten their crap out because them and nvidia dont have all their ducks in a row yet. dang i realy wanted this new rig for this weekend but alittle mistake on the shippers end stuck me maybe they'll knock a few dollars off for the srcew up it waz suppost to be done yesterday but nothing i can do now, have everything but the cpu but that doesnt help me a bit
