Good free ftp client?

I've been using SmartFTP for a long time, but at some point they smoothly transitioned from totally free to "screw you buddy, no freebies here". So now I am back on the hunt for a good and free ftp client. It doesn't need lots of features, but queued transfers and in-place file editing would be cool.

Re: Good free ftp client?

I use FileZilla. It is solid an free. It allows me to work on several servers and i have no issues with it. There are better ones (maybe not free), but FileZilla works fine for most of your needs.
And yes you can edit things on the server from the window like names and attributes. Is also has the queued file transfer you are looking for.

Another vote for FileZilla. Use it both at work and at home and love it.

Re: Good free ftp client?

Also use FileZilla for my website management. Previously used AceFTP Freeware (also very nice for free). But I find FileZilla is less hassle on me, my system, and speedier.

Re: Good free ftp client?

I've been using FileZilla ever since Apo recommended it, and I'm pleased with it. Not being an advanced user, it seems the same as CuteFTP and SmartFTP in terms of features that I use.

Re: Good free ftp client?

Console based FTP!

Actually windows Network Place works pretty good for simple file copy stuff. Just go into your "My Network Places" and add a new location using the wizard. Doesn't work in all cases but pretty handy for the simple stuff.

I've used a lot of ftp clients and I'd have to say Filezilla is the best free tool I've come across. I actually prefer it over my copy of WS_FTP Pro too.

Re: Good free ftp client?

Got Filezilla and tried it out a bit. Ugly interface, but it does the job.

Thanks all.

Re: Good free ftp client?

Resurrection.

The FireFTP plugin for Firefox is fantastic. It has ALL of the main features you could desire. It lacks only the more advanced features like multiple threads and scheduled/queued downloads.

Just wanted to share.
