Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

Vista has been working pretty good for me, you just have to find the little instances where Admin privelages need to be set and such.

Does anyone know if there is a way to set UAC to ask you for permission a few times then remember your answer after that so you don't keep having to allow proggies like BF2 and Teamspeak and others permission every single time. That way if you keep saying no, it remembers and continues saying no automatically.

Other than that I have no gripes with Vista, having to add additional memory, seems like a no brainer, if that memory can now be utilized more efficiently. imho!

Both versions. I searched for information on it and it seems to be an issue specific to the 7900GT, so hopefully it'll be fixed before the 100.59 have their proper release.

You know what I really want? A 'Thumbnail' gadget that displays a thumbnail of a current window in the sidebar. I don't suppose anybody knows how to grab those nifty little thumbnails from Aero?

Erm...if it was the current window why would you need a thumbnail? It wouldn't be terribly difficult in WPF to do it, though.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

I installed Vista Ultimate 32 bit last weekend and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their computer's OS. Before I upgraded I was pretty happy with XP and didnt really see a need but after using Vista could never go back to running XP....Vista is that impressive.

GET IT!!!

Hey guys, Not trying to get off the topic here, I have thought about upgrading
to Home Premium or Ultimate; But have you had any problems with POE or any other mods and what about teamspeak?

Hey. No no problems with POE or teamspeak on my end.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

Blah. Just did a 32 bit upgrade and it would not work. For giggles I set it up on a hard drive and for some reason got tons of memory errors that would tank my machine instantly. Not all bad news, I went onto the 64 bit clean install and it ran like a champ. No errors, just a couple hours to install. I really like the new layout am looking forward to getting some things to puch it a bit. I am still having SLI issues on the 64 bit, but I am confident that NVidia will have a fix in the next couple days for the 79xx cards (yes the 8xxx driver works but..).

Not the current window. I want a thumbnail of some windows I keep running in the background so I can keep an eye on them while working on something else. And yeah, I figured out how to do it... just got to create an activeX control and embed it in a gadget. The actual thumbnailing part is really easy, the desktop window manager has an API for creating and managing thumbnails.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

Well...I dove into Vistaland today.

Was going to wait for nVidia's drivers to settle out...but I got impatient.

I'd have to say, this was the easiest upgrade I've ever done. Didn't have a problem even though I installed over XP on the same drive. It just copied all the old XP directories (Documents and Settings, Program Files, Windows) to a backup directory, and installed normally. I'm impressed.

(Oh and an interesting note about the Business version...it comes with NO GAMES. No Solitaire, no Minesweeper, nada, which I think is a first since before 3.1)

It comes with games, not installed by default. If you go to your Control Panel, Programs & Features, you can adjust the Windows install to include the various Vista games.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

About how long is the Vista Ultimate/Home Premium install take (with all language packs)?

And the account that you set up the first time, is that account an administrator/part of admin group by default? Or is it like XP where you need to setup a seperate dedicated admin account?

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

The Vista install is pretty simple. You set up the install parameters, enter the license key, then wait until it finishes installing. I think the whole process takes about 35 minutes (Business 32-bit). You can go for a coffee while the OS installs.

I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything with my account and it's set up as admin.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

Yeah, it didn't take any time at all really. 35 Minutes seems about right. Just an observation, since I did a clean install - there were periods when the installer didn't give any information.. just a mouse pointer on the screen and it looked locked up, with little drive activity.. it looked stuck.. but it passes and continues on.

Re: Vista Owners, Raise Your Hands.

now i have a legality question. I have 2 legit Vista Business keys, but msdnaa wont allow me to download off the schools servers because i have to be on campus to download it. Is it legal for me to download a torrent of business and then install with my key or is that against the EULA?
