You might not need one right away. You have plenty of power to handle the cpu cycles the onboard audio will incur. And, when you move to vista, the audio stack is designed to allow even onboard audio many of the bells and whistles that are currently limited to dedicated sound cards.

Furthermore, a few games made only a little while ago (Battlefield 2 and Counter-Strike: Source are the ones I played) are unstable on Vista. This could be due to the drivers or Microsoft-style poor resource management; I can't tell. But, until Microsoft spends some time patching the major flaws in the first version of the new OS and some third party utilities to get around the TC come out, I'd definitely stay away.
FUD.

The only statement I agree with here is that XP currently plays games better than Vista. Generally, the difference in performance is just a few percentage points, which can be seen in this review of Vista's performance with 25 games.

Vista is vaporware? I've been testing it for quite some time. It was released to individual users on the 30th of Jan and business users had it in November.

How is Trusting Computing or Digital Rights Management "dangerous"? I may not appreciate the DRM embedded in Vista, but it isn't going to reach out and stick a shiv in me when I'm not looking.

A quick froogle search for Windows XP Home and Windows Vista Home yields a low price of $89 for the former and $99 for the latter. Is $10 that big of a deal? Overall, yes, Vista will likely be more expensive if you aren't buying a new PC which comes pre-installed with it, but if you are having a PC built then you can get the cheaper OEM version of Vista.

Microsoft-style poor resource management? What does this even mean? As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the resource management in Vista. In fact, it is considerably better than the one in XP. All the issues with games that I am aware of are due to running beta drivers. This is a driver manufacturer issue, not a Vista issue.

What "major flaws in the first version of the new OS"?

@FatCobra

Have you looked at ABS PC: www.abspc.com ?
They are a also a custom pre-build manufacturer of high quality PCs, although a bit pricier than Cyberpower/IBuyPower.

Thanks for that, but it says that almost everything is out of stock, and it's a little bit too pricy for almost the same stuff I can get at the other site.
