Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
The Turtle Beach one actually looked pretty good and NewEgg's reviews of it were pretty nice. It'd be nice if there were some more TGers here who knew more about the turtle beach HPA headset.
I researched these things myself and they're supposed to be pretty nice. About $70 at Fry's Electronics (TB sells them for $100 on their website). I'm going to go down to Phoenix today to pick up a pair (it's a two hour drive down.....I need the mini road trip....got cabin fever really bad). It'll be nice if they're everything I need, since they're so much less than the Medusa headset.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
Medusa 5.1's are the best. The best reason is they are banned from CAL/CPL events. If that is not proof enough, then I don't know what is.
I own them and love them. I've had them for about 3 years now. It's amazing how well you can track enemies with sound. Games like America's Army, getting a pair will get you all the hacking accusations you want. The newer models have the passthrough button on the amplifer that you can turn off one of the outputs(speakers or headets) the older models like mine have the out for the speakers, but not a button to switch. I just use the on off on the amp or speakers for that. You can still use the mic either way.

Just got mine today and they feel good and sound good so far. Still trying them out. They will get as loud as you want. You have to be careful when just starting out like me.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
I have had my set of Medusa 5.1 ProGamer Edition V2 headset since Jan 1, and I love them. I have a Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Music sound card, and had to tweak my settings a bit so I didn't have such a tinny sound (for my taste) in bf 2142. All in all these are great head phones, and the 5.1 sound is awesome. One of the first times I was impressed with the sound direction was on the Suez Canal and I could hear this Gunship fly up from behind me and over my head. It made me want to turn around and look up to watch it fly over me. I can really hear where shots are being fired from, which direction the walker is coming from etc. There is a huge difference from just regular stereo headphones, and the mic is great too. The vib control simulates a subwoofer vibration effect, so when driving an APC or Tiger Tank you get that low pitch rumble and vibration as well, it’s pretty cool (although I don’t turn it up very high at all).
I read a lot of reviews on other 5.1 head sets before I bought mine, and from what conclusion I came up with for cost, quality, comfort, and performance, the Medusa’s came out on top. The only place to get them is from Medusa, I paid $124 plus shipping for a total of $132. |

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
Hi
Been looking at these for awhile now. After reading this thread I went and ordered on mon and hopefully will get them today. I`ll be using them with a X-FI platinum and was wondering if there were any hard to find issues with setting them up? Thanks IronClaw |

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
Arggg... if it wasn't for this thread I would still have $150!!! I ordered my 5.1 home edition today. Supposed to be here in 2-6 days. I went with the home edition because I wanted to be able to switch to my speakers without having to unplug anything.

It`ll be nice getting 5.1 without having the house feel it`s under attack. ![]() Ironclaw PS I was browsing through the Medusa-USA site and came across the faqs page that show you how to setup with the XFI software. Also for every model mentioned, do you guys find the pads are big enough to go around the ear, versus pressing the ears to the head? I have 3 pairs of headphones sitting in a bin under my desk because they HURT... |

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
I ended up getting the Turtle Beach headsets. They are excellent (I have a review thread here for them), though they do press my big ears against my head, and it hurts after several hours of wear. However, for the excellent sound I get, the mild discomfort is tolerable, considering I paid $70 for these things.
In retrospect, I should've gotten the medusas, which everyone says are wonderfully comfortable. However, for what I got for $70, I am very VERY well pleased.
