Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
wierd.
if you hadn't gone out to get the x-fi, I would've told you that on creative's support forum, there is a thread that redirects you to a site that has the iso's for most of creative's install CD's. b/c that's where the speaker settings panel is to do the bass redirect.
that's how I got my original install software back on my comp|TG-Irr|Hiram_Yorik

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
wow... so after playing with these for a few months, the mic suddenly stopped working. I emailed medusa-usa, and they're cross-shipping me a new pair for free.

Anyway - I've just now learned how much I've really come to rely on directional-sound while playing!! I just played ~2hrs of PR wearing my "work headphones" (bose triports).... although the Bose set produces a higher fidelity sound (truer bass and mids), I was stunned at how much my situational awareness dropped by going from 5ch to 2ch.... Now, I'm not saying it was unplayable without them, but it definitely becomes a very different game once you start to relying on them.
Twisted: any luck?

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
Wow, my mic suddenly stopped working last night right in the middle of a game too. I filled out the RMA form, I hope they help me. I got mine last June but hardly used them. Needless to say, I'm not very amused at that fact for what they cost!
How did you contact them, via that RMA form?

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
Hey JMJ, welcome back
yeah - just went to the website and filled out the form - got an email back from the CEO within an hour or so! From reading some of that thread Squinty posted, they seem to be all about customer service... All he needed in order to send me a new set was the tracking number (I used USPS) for the broken set on the way back.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
from here: http://www.medusa-usa.com/support.php
"Speed-Link products are guaranteed for two years from the date of purchase in respect of workmanship and all built-in components. For the initial 12 months, Medusa-USA look after warranty issues and, for your convenience and peace of mind, have set up a warranty return centre in Arizona where in the unlikely event of a component failing and, on the authorisation of Speed-Link, returns can be sent to and replacements are issued out from. Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
These headphones are cursed or something. When JMJ mentioned that his mic stopped working, I forgot about mine also quitting on me some time ago. That coupled with the fact my rear left channel does not work properly, and now this which I just saw yesterday.

That slider thing broke. This didn't affect the sound, but still.....
I'm going to see if I can RMA these again.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
I've been watching this thread to try and make a decision on whether to pick these suckers up. It sounds like there have been mixed results on these headphones. I have the X-fi Xtreme Music card so it looks like I would have to do some configuring to get things just right.
Has there been anyone really disappointed with these?

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
You do have to do some configuring with them, but once you get it, they are awesome. I am not disappointed at all with mine. I had the older removable mic, the newer headsets don't have that. I never removed it, but the guy from support told me that with the newer mics he has not seen one stop working. If my new pair has issues, I'll probably not be very thrilled with them, but I do like the surround sound.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
What was the setup that you tried? I'd be impressed if the store had a nice gaming rig with a quality* soundcard sitting out for testing of headphones. We don't have Fry's where I live, but it would definitely be out of character for CompUSA.
Can the moderators add a poll to this thread so those that own the Medusas can vote on whether they would or would not recommend them? Or do we have to start a new thread for that?
*Note that by quality I mean implied quality. Friggin buggy X-FI.

Re: Review of Medusa 5.1 Headphones
I'm pretty sure that I remember them being SB Live 5.1 cards that they were plugged into... I remember playing Doom3 and listening to a little bit of Metallica with them. The music was absolutely horrible to hear with them.
