Re: Do you like your Medusa headset?
Sweet, thanks Cing!
I'm convinced by this thread that these are a good product design but see that they suffer from poor quality control. I would buy them with hope that I get a "good one", but I know that if they break I'll just stick them in the bin of random broken stuff sitting 2 feet away from me. I'm pretty bad about returning stuff. Guess I'll keep getting pwned for now.|TG-12th| Boot

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Just an update on my Medusa headset: The front-left speaker is now noticably softer than the front-right one.

What is wrong with these headphones? Is Medusa a subsidiary of Creative? It seems like everyone is now having issues.

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Arg. So my mic broke on them, and after about 10days I got a new pair via DHL. Nothing but positive things to say about their service - it was very prompt. Unfortunately a week later, the center speakers are all static. I think there must be something wrong w/ the amp, because when I turn the volume knob for the center channel, it's all noise
Do I get a third pair or is it time to move on?

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Hah! I just ordered mine yesterday. I did not see this thread until today. Well, hopefully I'll have good luck with mine. Though Squinty did give it a good right up but others seem to have some issues. So I guess I'll see how it turns out.
I'll post with my experience with them.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
I got a pair of the gamers edition V2 medusas. Overall, the headphones are ok. IMO, they help you figure out the direction of the sound better, but are worse at helping figure the distance of the sound source. The sound quality is mediocre.
Fidelity: Considering they are gaming headphones, they are not that bad. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 580 ($140 refurbished ebay) that make the game sound a lot better (especially the pillum firing). However, they do lack the spatial awareness that comes with 5.1 headphones. The 'subwoofer' that comes in the medusas is worthless. Might as well be 5.0. The 'center' and 'rear 'speakers are not all that either. They sound small and tinny. The 'left' and 'right' speakers are the best of the lot. If you hear an explosion directly beside you, it sounds great. If the explosion is behind or directly in front of you, the sound is quieter and has less punch. It makes distance gauging impossible.
Comfort: They are comfy to wear for an hour or two, but no more. I have a very large head and I still have the settings on tightest so that they sit on top of my head instead of just pressing on my ears.
Microphone: The mic is nice. The gooseneck it sits on is flexible and moves around easily. However, considering that the microphone is right next to my mouth, it is still very quiet. I have to turn it all the way up in software, enable mic boost, and turn down the game sounds to get a decent volume level out of it.
Inline amp: The medusas came with an inline amp (attached to the cable) with 6 volume knobs. It was the cheapest amp I've seen in my life. If you've got a decent sound card, it will ruin its hi-fi output. Plus, the amp's knobs very fickle when adjusting. Fine tuning is really frustrating. When there was nothing coming out of the soundcard, you could still hear the hiss from the amp. So I whipped out the soldering gun and removed the amp - they sound a lot better now. Plus, the X-FI has all the knobs needed to balance out the channels. Apparently Medusa offers a home theater edition model that comes without the inline amp. Maybe I should have ordered that one.
Knowing what I know now, would I have bought them? Nope. But, Medusa does not give refunds.
Life is uncertain. Ride your best horse first.

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Apologies for the resurrection, but it would be nice to have an update from the users. Did you guys that had problems with the Medusas continue to have issues after replacement? And what was your conclusion, FatKidDeath?

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
I initially voted that I did not have a set... but after reading some of the reviews by TGers, I bit the bullet. I love mine and haven't had any issues. I can't compare it to any other 5.1 headset however.

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
I ended up buying a new pair and they've been excellent. They're actually quite comfortable after long use. That's one of things I like, plus they sound perfect.

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Still pondering if I should buy these.. I have a xifi extreme gamer card but I have a Speaker/headphones switch and it doesn't have the plugins of the sound card for surround sound.. Does it come with a switch so I can switch back to my 5.1 speakers or I have to go unplug everything?

Re: Do you really like your Medusa headset?
Update: My final research is done, are you still having the Rear Tinny noises and Center subwoofer problems? Or have those been fixed by drivers/software?
