How long does your Vista take to boot up?

I'm curous how long everyone takes to boot into Vista. It was my impression that Vista was supposed to boot faster than XP, but I haven't noticed any significant difference.

You can see your boot time by doing the following:

1. Click start --> Run --> eventvwr
2. Navigate to Windows Logs --> Application and Service Logs --> Microsoft --> Diagnostics-Performance --> Operational
3. Click on the "event id" header to sort the events by event id.
4. Boot information can be found under event id 100.

My boot time is 52971ms.

Good lord..almost 3 minutes to boot up? You have some issues going on with your hard drive or your drivers.

Intel Core2 Extreme QX6700 (quad 2.66 GHz)
4GB DDR2
2x ATI Radeon 1950 Pro pci-e
and heres the kicker....
a 32 bit version of vista because the 64 bit version is buggy as hell.

Re: How long does your Vista take to boot up?

Most of the "delay" in modern computing is all about storage media latency.

Hard drive seek, read, and write times are really what makes your PC seem fast or slow, when you have anything CLOSE to a modern setup.

While the above poster has a quad CPU core system, if he was loading Vista from an IDE-ATA66 hard drive, he'd still have to go make a damn sandwich while it booted.

Yep thats the reason my boot time on xp is a bit slow, I've still got a ata100 hdd I use for all my media, I don't use it for my os, but it still bogs my boot time.

There is a program for XP, not sure if it works on Vista yet. Its called Bootvis, and it can optimize your boot time, and log it as well. Just google it.

Re: How long does your Vista take to boot up?

well we are on xp pro still, I see no reason to go in debt and spend $1200.00 USD. for 3 machines when xp is fine. I would also have to purchase a newer video card for one of the machines and 1 gig more ram each for 2 of them.
Why $1200.00? I would not buy anything but the Ultimate full versions if we went with vista.
Specs? all are older boxes, newest from top to bottem.

Core 2 dual E6700, 2 gig PC4200, dual sata 74 gig raptors, PCi-X16 X800 pro 256mb DDR3 onboard.

Dual core 3.4, 1 gig PC4200, sata 160 gig, PCI-X16 GeForce 7100GS 256mb turbocache {128mb onboard}.

P4 - 3.0.6, 1 gig PC3200, ATA/100 80 gig, ATI 9600 pro 128 mb onboard agp 8x.

File/Storage/FTP server: AMD 1.2, 1.5 gig PC133, triple 200 gig ATA/133, ATI 9200 pro 128mb onboard agp 8x. W2K server.

we got another couple of P III based desktops and a couple of P III based notebooks also. W2k - XP pro/home.
