One thing I do like about my system is that it is whisper-quiet, and that is with the fans in performance mode. 120mm or larger fans are great.

What kind of fan do you have that is so loud? How many RPMs is it runnning?

    Re: CPU Temps Revisited

E6600 C2D 2.4Ghz, no overclocking, Stock Intel Heat Sink Fan.

My CPU and MB temps vary greatly due to the ambient temperature in the room. Today was very cool but I have seen these idles 3 degrees higher on warmer days:

    CPU
    ===
    Idle: 30C
    3 minutes Testing: 38C

    MB
    ==
    Idle: 33C
    3 minutes Testing: 35C

I am sure the four fans of my Antec 900 really help bring this down despite the stock HSF. I have them all on low and it is dead quite and cool.

BTW, where on the MB is the temperature measured? My guess would be at the north bridge. My manual didn't say. Might it vary with MB?s

Please include your CPU type, speed, and any overclocking you are doing as well as your cooling hardware.

CPU: Pentium D 805, Stock Cooling, No Overclock
Speed: 2666 MHz or 2.66 GHz
Mobo: ASUS P5PE-VM, Stock Cooling, No Overclock
Airflow: 4 80mm Fans (front inflow, lowest speed), 1 80mm Fan (side/CPU outflow, medium speed), and 2 80mm Fans (rear outflow, max speed)
    Measurement Tool: ASUS Probe v.2.25.02

    Idle Temps (Low/Median/High)
    CPU: 43C / 47C / 48C
    Mobo: 25C / 26C / 28C

    Load Temps (Low/Median/High)
    CPU: 49C / 51C / 55C
    Mobo: 28C / 29C / 29C

    Re: CPU Temps Revisited

Now that I have everything set up.
[Power plugged in, on a solid surface... etc.]

    Computer Details:
Custom Built Laptop, By VISION computers.
    2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
    2 GB DDR2 RAM
Seagate 100 GB 5400 RPM HDD.

    IDLE:
    HDD - 41 C
    Core 1 - 38 C
    Core 2 - 41 C

    AFTER TEST:
    Small FFTs - 3 Minutes
    CPU High: Core 1 - 78 C
    Core 2 - 78 C

    CPU Low - 68 C (Both Cores)

    HDD - 41, straight through.

I really need to get a bigger fan for this thing. I haven't messed with it since I got it. I also need a force induction system. Kinda like the PVC pipe one I found on the forums. [Brilliant!]

    After a 5 minute cooling:
    CPU - 30 Even
    HDD - 41.

    Re: CPU Temps Revisited

Not to be off-topic, but Glitter, your T7200 Duo Core should not be at 78C on load. Anything higher than 61.4C is considered overheating and you'll end up destroying your CPU chip and motherboard over time. Make sure you have your HSF (heatsink/fan) seated properly (should not wobble if installed right).

I figured as much, which is why I only ran the test once.
I've kept it on cool surfaces after the fact.
And I checked the heat sink, it's firmly in place.

The probable cause of the mass heat, is due to the presence of only one, rather small fan. Hence my comment that I need a bigger fan, and probably a force induction system.

I intend to check with VISION, to see if they will do after-the-fact work on the 'top.

    Thanks for your concern though.

    Re: CPU Temps Revisited

I just got done playing with this. Wow, Orthos put a hurting on me. I am thinking that it being a 90degrees out did not help, but still. I also ran the test with the side on my ThermalTake Armor case, I will try it later without the side. I am also going to take some of the advice from the previous posts and work on the airflow in the case a bit more..

    System Detail:
    Q6600 @ 3.24 (overclocked from 2.4)
    VCore 1.42v
    4GB Corsair TwinX XMS 6400C4Pro
Custom water cooling on CPU and GPUs
    Speed Fan Monitoring
    No load: (all in celcius)

    System: 12
    CPU: 44
    AUX: 34
    Core 0: 36
    Core 1: 36
    Core 2: 34
    Core 3: 33
*Temp on my cooling guage mounted to my lines: 31

Orthos (10 minutes of run time):

    System: 27
    CPU: 62
    AUX: 35
    Core 0: 57
    Core 1: 56
    Core 2: 48
    Core 3: 45
*Temp on my cooling guage mounted to my lines: 36

Do you guys reccomend any other programs for monitoring?

Yup. No love with Vista 64. It will install, but not run.

    Re: CPU Temps Revisited

    Q6600?

Glitter, I would get a copper and aluminum HSF as quickly as possible and have it installed soonest. You don't want to expose either your CPU or mobo to extensive heat for long periods.

I just want to add the following to my original post:

    On a hot day...
    CPU Temps (Low/Median/High): 49C / 55C / 62C
    Mobo Temps (Low/Median/High): 33C / 38C / 42C

This is with all 8 case and PSU fans running on max and the CPU stock fan running at about 3100 rpm.

I cleaned out my fan, and the shrouding.
And found a great deal of pet hair.

Once finished, my computer ran MUCH cooler.

I will look into finding a Cu/Al HSF for my laptop.
    Thank you.
