And how would using the iPhone "dumb you down"? I actually start losing IQ points when I use an iPhone? Huh?

And you do realize that Steve Jobs is the guy who has come out and said that DRM is bad, right?

Re: What do you think of the Apple iPhone?

Yes, but a majority of songs available from iTunes are still DRM-protected and proprietary to Apple devices. Which is the absolute biggest turn off for me for Apple products. DRM stands for "Digital Rights Management", by the way. The "Restrictions" part was only coined by the anti-DRM people. I can understand a company wanting to protect its property, but it seems a little absurd for iTunes to distribute music files that are incompatible with anything outside of iTunes/iPod/iPhone. I guess you can always use Rhapsody or something.

That's just my advertising bit. If you want real information on the iPhone, Google will link you to plenty. I won't do your research for you. Yes, Steve Jobs has said in public that DRM is bad, but guess what? Apple is still a leading producer of DRM, and the iPhone is full of it.

No one is asking you to do any research, just leave the useless propaganda flamebait links to other websites or say something that contributes to the discussion rather than linking to a inaccurate piece of fluff.

Now if you would have said iTunes is DRMed I would agree in that, yes, Apple doesn't offer 100% of their songs DRM-free. I hate DRMed songs and will never buy one. It's the reason why I would never own a Zune--now that is a DRMed device. But the iPhone itself has no DRM restrictions whatsoever.

Yes, the iTunes store is the largest online seller of music. Yes, the vast majority of that music is DRMed. No, the iPhone is not "full of it." It has nothing to do with the DRM. iTunes controls DRM access to your songs and the ability to synch the songs to your device or not.

Re: What do you think of the Apple iPhone?

Let me know when Apple provides information on the iPhone's interface so third parties can develop applications to manage the media on it the same way iTunes does.

Re: What do you think of the Apple iPhone?

For those windows mobile 5/6 users who want the flashy user interface but don't want an iphone....

WhoNeedsAniPhone

If you take away the fancy interface of the iphone, it actually lacks quite a few features some newer phones have. If you put a new interface on those windows-based phones.... well, you still have windows... but something a bit more user friendly.

Re: What do you think of the Apple iPhone?

After two weeks of using my iPhone, I have to say, I love the little thing. The switch from my former carrier (Sprint) went more smoothly than I could hope for...I went from getting 0-1 bar in my home to getting 5, and the coverage in my area is better with AT&T. The performance of EDGE is more than adaquate for web surfing (especially since they increased the speeds in my area). It's still not as good as broadband but it's acceptable. The switch from Edge to WiFi hotspots is simple and the web browser really shines with WiFi. In fact, I'm on the forums with my iPhone right now.

The battery life is good, though I find myself having to recharge it every night because I often check websites and use the iPod mode...though the days where I was too busy to play with the thing, the battery didn't lose any charge for multiple days.

The phone hasn't dropped any calls yet, and the sound quality is good. It didn't take long to get used to the keyboard, though they do need to work on the mail app (IMAP servers don't work well with it yet). Overall, for their first product, it's an exceptional piece of work.

If you are in the same situation that I was (typing out text messages using the keypad and trying to use the bastardized version of the web most phones give you), if you can stomach the cost I highly recommend looking into this phone. On the other hand, if you already have a PDA phone or a windows mobile phone, I can understand why you wouldn't want to switch.

Re: What do you think of the Apple iPhone?

The day before E3 '07 went on, they did a preview thing w/e, but they mentioned something about apple is making an iPhone nano, it will be similar, but without the touchscreen capabilities. i am not 100% sure if they said they WERE or there are rumors that they were. I think its pretty dumb to make a smaller one because the one they got now is in need to improvement first.
