Re: video cards

I doubt the kid's system can handle a 7800GT much less an 8800 series card (assuming it is a cheaper PSU and/or a AGP system).

For BF2, you'd probably want to get at least a nVidia 6600GT or better. It'll give you decent framerates and a nice resolution where it won't feel like you're playing 8-bit Pong.

Re: video cards

I'm selling a video card that might work for you.

GeForce 6800 GS 256MB

You would need to make sure your computer can handle an AGP card, which it probably can. Minimum bid is $50 right now.

Re: video cards

I think you need to open up your case and look at the available slots first before anything. Assuming your computer is store bought, the chances of it having even an AGP slot is low. If all the slots are identical, then all you have is standard PCI slots, which is bad.

Here is a picture of what the connectors look like:

Better yet, restart your computer and see if the motherboard model number comes up on the first splash screen. If not you have to pry her open.

Re: video cards

Go with option 1. The X1950 Pro is a good card. The nice thing is it's cheap too because it's not top of the line compared to nVidia's newer cards.

For ~$200 though, it might not last 2 years.

Re: video cards

I had a Factory X1950XTX until yesterday. Sapphire left me with a bad taste though whan I had a Sapphire X1900XT.. it behaved a little sketchy and they were slow in supplying newegg with product and they were out of stock. So I ended up with the ATI X1950XTX (read: sweeeeeet).

The core clock difference can be made up for in the ATI driver software - it can automatically adjust your overdrive speed and you'll probably end up with the same core speed between the MSI and the Sapphire.

I just traded mine out for a BFG NVidia 8800GTX - looking forward to trying out this weekend.
