Berlin, Germany -- Philips 3D Solutions will demonstrate its new 42-inch 3D LCD monitor for the professional digital signage market, featuring its 3D lenticular technology, at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2005 in Berlin, Germany, September 2-7. Philips’ new multi-view 3D display provides a richer, more informative, and more entertaining end-user experience, without the need for special viewing glasses. It can be used for high-impact in-store messaging for advertising or sales promotion, images, videos, and other forms of media suitable for a large screen.

3D display technology enhances the power of digital signage. People today are bombarded by a stream of messages from all sorts of media. In the battle for their attention, a 3D display is likely to attract more viewers than conventional media. 3D digital signage is particularly effective in such media-rich environments as retail stores, shopping malls, airports and railway stations, and indoor events such as conventions.

Philips 3D Solutions offers a complete package through 3D displays and display signal processing. These are the main elements:

A multi-view 3D display on a 42-inch, high definition LCD screen with a lenticular lens array for outstanding 3D optical autostereoscopic behavior, giving full brightness and full contrast;
Integrated 3D rendering and advanced display signal-processing hardware that calculates multiple views in real time and optimizes the content for the lenticular display;
Decoder software enabling the playing of 3D content
A media-sequencer software suite that enables users to create a content playlist to be played back from a PC;
Plug-ins for popular 3D animation packages such as 3D Studio Max are available, so that content providers can save their current artwork into a file format that can be used in a straightforward way with the decoder and media-sequencer software.

Philips’ 3D information-display solution comprises a 42-inch, multi-view 3D monitor; a decoder; media-sequencer software, and plug-ins for 3D animation programs. Philips expects the solution to be available through selected distribution partners in October 2005.
