Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

I'd recommend any of the Logitech gaming mice. The style of the MX518, G series or any other mouse that has that shape is very comfortable. They also tend to have a lot of programmable buttons.

If you go with a Logitech mouse, get uberOptions for the Setpoint software. You can unlock a bunch of other features in the Setpoint software. Logitech locks a lot of stuff according to which mouse you have.

How are the scroll wheels on the Razers? I've got a G5 right now and I despise the scroll wheel so much.

I've got a Razer Diamondback and haven't had a problem with the scroll well. I'm not sure what makes you despise the G5 but the Diamondback is nice and smooth as far as scrolling.

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

For some reason I'm often able to get the wheel into a position so that the second my finger bumps it ever so slightly that it'll scroll up or down. It also has a habit of scrolling up and down when clicking the wheel as well. Drives me nuts. Otherwise it's a nice mouse.

Does this feature work in BF2 and PR? and what exactly does it show on the LCD?

I 'm about to buy myself one .

I know for a fact it works for 2142, not entirely sure about BF2 or PR. Probably works for BF2, and a maybe for PR, b/c its a mod.

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

The keyboard doesn't really make much of a difference in my opinion. A good mouse with extra keys does make a good deal of difference though.

After purchasing my Logitech G7 mouse, I found that I'm able to switch between weapons quicker and have a much better response time (adjustable sens). Plus I'm able to communicate much more effectively then having to fumble for the out of hand key bind on my keyboard for voip.

For the $50 price range, I can recommend the Logitech G5 (wired). Pretty much the same thing as the G7 but with a tail.

Agreed, only reason I 'd buy the keyboard is the LCD screen. Seeing your frags would help a lot when playing PR. Not having to switch to the TAB screen to see if you nailed that bastard 500m down the road and having your amount of ammo in front of you all the time could be really helpful. I also read X-Fire and TS plugins are very useful.

I prefer a mouse with two thumb buttons, the MX518 is often compared to the G5 so if it wasn't for the wire, I 'd already have it. I could live with a wired keyboard (remains in place), but a wired mouse... no thanks. G7 is one ugly beast and doesn't suit my desktop .

Edit: Decided not to buy the G15:

Long story short. It desn't work. It will never work. We know it sucks, but, it doesn't work.

For the long version . . . it relates to how the keyboard was designed. Although most people do not realize this, or give it much thought, on ANY keyboard, you can't actually press every key at the same time, and have the computer regonize every keypress. This is due to what's called the "keyboard matrix". Certain keys "share" the same interface to the computer. Because this is being marketed as a "gaming" keyboard, and the vast majority of gamers use the WASD configuration for moving, it's theorized that Logitech created their matrix with this in mind, so that none of those keys would conflict with each other, and very possibly, the G keys as well. Because of that, some concessions were made, and, it appears that SHIFT and UP is being sent on all the lines that the RIGHT key would also use, and thereforce it's not being recognized by your PC. Because this is actually how the keyboard was physically designed, no driver or firmware update will fix this issue. If you normally use the arrow keys for gaming instead of the WASD style, this keyboard probably isn't for you.

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

The newer G5 has two thumb buttons. I bought my G5 two months prior to the new release and still love it (though the second thumb button would have been sweet).

I have a G15 I purchased on sale (and with a gift card) and really like the LCD when I'm on TeamSpeak and in the game. I also use the lower bank of "G" buttons to handle my TeamSpeak keybinds...

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

I got a mx518 yesterday and my god the difference is like night and day. I'm playing so much better than I used to, so yeah.. it definitely makes a difference. As for the keyboard, I do fine with stock.. just rip off those winkeys and you're set.

They're actually a registry fix you can do to disable the windows key:

Remember, always be careful with your registry, don't screw with stuff unless you know what you're doing.

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

Here 's what I got for my BD:

Already changed my controls to play with the ZQSD keys (WASD on a qwerty board). Had some practice last night and I felt like a complete noob again , even though we held River Fort on 7Gates almost the entire round (gj Dirtboy & co). Can't count the times I pressed Caps Lock in stead of Shift when trying to prone...

Mouse batteries are charging, can't wait to try it out .

Re: Gaming Mouse/KB

Put those new buttons to use.

I have crouch and prone on my thumb buttons. I fixed dpi at a comfortable setting and remapped the sensitivity buttons to primary and frags.

C is now remmaped to knife. Mouse wheel depressed as a button brings up defib, document flip is now Voip.

Hehe, nice setup.

I 'm gonna play around with the buttons till I find a setup that suits me. Think I 'll use the left/right scroll keys for radio menus, left thumb button for primary as it is now and the dpi keys I 'll leave default (for now). I heard changing dpi comes in handy when you 're in control of the tank turret etc... will have to find out.
