can you delete a OS?
I have Win XP on my C drive, and Win Vista on my D...
I have them in a dual boot type install...
I can't stand, or need Vista anymore, (was really just testing it and games), is there a way to safely un-install the OS on the D drive without ruining my XP install?
thx in advance.Magnum

Re: can you delete a OS?
put the XP disk in and let the disk boot. You want to repair the OS, which i think should bring up a dos prompt. Type "fxmbr", it will ask you a question about wanting to do it, yes. This will get rid of the dual boot issue then you can just format the drive vista is on.
That should work, someone else confirm thatthat sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: can you delete a OS?
Yeah, that should work. All you need to do is repair the boot record so that the drive knows how to boot WinXP, which the XP install disk can do. The Vista partition can then be deleted.

Re: can you delete a OS?
When you boot you get a prompt for what install to choose correct?
If so, type c:\boot.ini at a command prompt
You will get a text file that shows different things like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Delete the one for the line that has vista in it, now it won't be listed in your boot options
Then you cal delete the vista folder off your d drive
