Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

Thats fine. I'm not just buying this monitor to game, but I do alot of late-night and weekend work from home and would appreciate the extra room for my spreadsheet work.

I definitely like being able to change the resolution as needed and I'm not a high-details guy anyway. I'm leaning towards the 24"

Definitely go for it then. I know I'd want a 24" Dell even if I couldn't run games at high resolutions. I get so spoiled with dual monitors that using my laptop is kind of annoying for work.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

youll love it as i love mine. I love how you can adjust it pretty much anyway possible...up, down, tilt left and right and even go portrait. USB's plus component is awesome too. I have my cable box hooked up to it so sometimes i go picture in picture while im gaming to catch a sports game. Very cool.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

Check out:

Wide screen gaming forum

In my current office setup I'm running 4 Dell 24" WS monitors. Two for my Windows box and two for my Linux system (with Synergy in between (: ). I've never had a problem with them. No dead pixels. Nothing. That said, if you're worried about seeing things on them at their native resolution, text and icons do tend to be on the small side.

I'll be upgrading to four Dell 27" wides screens in the near future. They run at the same native resolution as the 24" monitors so text is easier on the eyes.

Edit: I see you already ordered. If you get the 24" and would like to pump up the size of things on screen, consider going to the 27"! Dell will exchange for you

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

ok I will. We actually just re-did the office with new desks and bookcases (but not new paint colors like the wife wants). I ended up ordering a 24 for myself and the 22 for my wife. Both should arrive next week (lead times from Dell are 2-3 weeks on the 24).

LOL. You realize that before the week is out the wife will have arranged for you to switch monitors with her, don't you?

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

I just got one yesterday and I don't know about games but for development this thing is great. Visual Studio IDE seems to have been made for a big, and wide monitors. I can have the tool boxes, immediate/watch windows and property/solution/data boxes all open and still see tons of real code.

I love it. The contrast is nice and high. The text is super sharp and plenty of brightness.

Oh, and it now 569 at dell.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

I absolutely love my 24 and widescreen is natively supported in Arma and it is pretty nice to have an extra little FOV.

For spreadsheet work comparing my dual 19s at work and at home, I'm a TON more efficient on the single large 24. At $600 this was a great investment.

Yeah, which is why if you have a 14" laptop screen like mine, you only use Visual Studio when you need syntax highlighting for your boss's old Visual Basic code.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection

I finagled a 24" widescreen at work and... holy crap. I'm not ready to buy a new one for home but after using that one all day at work every day there's no way I'll buy anything less now.

Yikes! I sometimes do VS work on a 15" laptop screen. It isn't pleasant. When I'm at the office, I sit the laptop next to a 21" CRT and use every inch of both screens. (after all, you need a screen for surfing )
