But it probably what depends what you use it for. I currently have a 20" CRT and the 24" widescreen LCD. In a couple of weeks I am going to add another 20" CRT. I will use every square inch.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
But a 24" has a better resolution than a 22" Or at least in the Ultrasharp series from Dell. I love having a USB hub on my monitor, and 1920*1200 would make High Res gaming possible with my 8800GTS... Sure a 22" @ 1680*1024 or what ever would be nice, but a 24" will be better. Plus the Ultrasharp series, the 24" has 6ms response, and the 20"/22" has only 16ms... I was thinking about going with the 27" but thats a tad bit too expensive.
And im going from a 17" so the difference will be overwhelming.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
I use my 24" along with my widescreen laptop at work for code development. I have four files of code open & visible on the 24 (probably another 20 hidden at any moment) with debug tools on the laptop. The laptop screen looks like a toy... I gotta squint to see ****e.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
Did you guys who own the UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC, have to buy the DVI cables seperate, if so, which did you get? also, with a Geforce 6800 GT (PCI-E), 3.4 Ghz P 4, will i be able to run games @ it's native resoultion. hmmm....may have to go SLI...does the Asus P5AD2 deluxe Mobo have the extra slot? Went to the web site, but couldn't determine much from that visit....any help wpuld be appreciated. thanks |TG|.
|TG| = Tech Geeks! : ) Dirt013 one more thing, a con listed in one of the reviews i read, stated: "The only thing we would like to have seen was High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connectivity, which would have allowed us to use newer graphics cards..." Is this like Analog vs. DVI? Is this the future connection for graphic cards? I'm only concerned because this is a MAJOR investment for me, and i plan on having this monitor for quite awhile.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
Answered a lot of mine own questions after doing quite a bit of research. Comes, w/ the cables, my mobo only has one PCI-E slot....no cheap upgrade to SLI for me... Anyhow, does anyone own a 2407WFP-HC? If so, have you noticed aby of the ghosting issues listed above? I thought it was going to be the perfect fit, but after exploring the links above, i'm leaning toward an NEC.
Anyhow, it's down to these LCD's: HP LP2465 NEC LCD2470WNX SAMSUNG 244t Dell 2407WFP-HC Any input? The NEC is more expensive than the others, but from what i've read, it may be worth the extra $.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
I have been using the HC for the last month with no issues noticed. I'm double covered with Costco and Dell warranties so I'm not worried at all. Plus this monitor is fantastic and a huge upgrade from my 2003 $1500 22in CRT NEC.

Re: 22" vs 24" monitor selection
There is one more thing you need to research before purchasing an LCD: Input lag. Basically, this form of lag takes shape in the form of a delay between a frame being inserted into the frame buffer on your vid card and the time it is actually displayed on the screen. Typically, LCD's with lots of special color correcting or gamma correcting circuitry must do special processing on the frame before displaying it on the screen. This is what introduces the "Input Lag", and can account for anywhere from 2 to 5 frames of delay, or 2/60 to 5/60 seconds. The higher this number, the more you will notice a sensation of the screen catching up to you. You'll find yourself "shooting" where your opponent was 3 to 5 frames ago, and "just miss" them quite often. If your really good, you'll learn to anticipate this instinctively, but it's not all that easy to do.
This type of lag only matters if you play fast action first person shooters (FPS's). If your into roll playing games, this is of no consequence. widescreengamingforum.com has a tremendous number of reviews for LCD's. Check those out. Personally, I have my eyes on a 26" Planar LCD, the PX2611W. It's a bit too high in price for now, but dropping steadily over time. No input lag (few special processing circuits), it's an H-IPS screen (high color gammut, IPS), great viewing angles, larger pixel pitch and a good sturdy stand.
