I've never liked the idea of noise cancellation by way of what are basically ear-plugs. It works well, but I don't like to be _that_ cut off from my environment and if you have a properly tight fit, it doesn't stay comfortable for long. Kick ass sound quality on those Shure's, though!

Well, I pulled the trigger on a pair of those Audio Technica's. I'll let everyone know how I like them as compared to QC2's and in general...

I got this in an email today:

So... we also have a little something special to mention here - Your own private Woot event!

WOOT VIP: Jabra Noise Cancelling Portable Headphones Travel Pack, Model C820S -$59.99

These are the collapsible hard-shell airplane-ready active noise cancellation style that we've been trying to secure at Woot for years (well at least I've wanted one for years.) We've had to wait but now the timing couldn't be better - right after a big wave of Zune and SanDisk player sales and right before everyone's holiday travel plans. It's enough of an opportunity that our experimental VIP event system seems the coolest and fairest way to release them.

So here's the VIP link you'll need to access the Jabra event - just follow the red carpet, the doors are now open:

So launching this way gives us a chance to thank you for your recent purchase with a first chance opportunity. Who it's shared with is up to you. If quantities last, the sale will remain active for a few days-we've got a few more than a dozen to sell
These look like the Audio Technica headphones that I really like a LOT. My Audio Technica set is definitely better than the Bose QC2 sets that I've tried. I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch that Logitech's and now Jabra's noise canceling headphones are just re-branded Audio Technicas. If I wanted another pair, I'd buy these.

I clicked on the picture of the Jabra headphones at Woot, and I'm now almost 100% certain that they are re-branded ATs. If you've been thinking about getting a pair of noise canceling headphones, get these.

Here's the link to AT's website: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/he...785/index.html

Re: Noise canceling headphone reviews/recommendations?

I didn't do any research - received them fro Christmas - but I live by the Bose noise cancellers for long distance flights. I had a pair of QC1's until they fell apart (loads of abuse) and am now loving the QC2's.

Re: Noise canceling headphone reviews/recommendations?

Cing, which model of ATs did you get? (The link from July doesn't work any longer)

Also, do you use them for gaming? If so, how are they? I'm looking for something that will give me better positional sound than my 2.1 speaker setup.

Thanks

I use them almost exlusively for traveling (music and movies). I would say that they wouldn't be worth the cost if it weren't for the noise canceling, but for $60, they're worth it even if you don't need the noise canceling circuitry. Sound quality would be way more than good enough for gaming.

If you've been gaming with just stereo sound, I'm sure you know that turning your character by 90 degrees occasionally give you MUCH more accurate directional audio than most people's surround sound systems.

Re: Noise canceling headphone reviews/recommendations?

So I ended up getting a pair of the Jabra c820s for xmas (wife got them off woot for 60 bucks!). I am VERY impressed! It's the first pair of ANC headphones I've owned, but the performance is amazing, and my initial impression (2 days of use) is that they sound just as good as the bose triport's I was previously wearing.

The sound of my computer fans, printer fan, street traffic, planes, and whatever the kids are watching on the TV in the other room all fade away 3-4 seconds after turning on the ANC (via a switch on the side). There is a very faint hiss (white noise), but it's very quiet and pleasant on the ears (some people buy white noise sound-machines). Anyway, as soon as some audio starts playing, the hiss goes away.

The one sound it doesnt completely cancel is talking. If there's a movie playing in the other room, the soundtrack is silenced, as are most of the effects, but you can still hear [a well attenuated version of] speech.

anyway - two thumbs way up... especially if you can find them for 60 bucks!

WhiskeySix, did any of the documentation or anything say Audio Technica anywhere?
