The 72 dollar PC

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/how20/1...cbccdrcrd.html

pretty sweet if you ask me. The price of things has kind of jumped just a few dollars but i think you can still build something like this for under 100bucks. 2gig Jumpdrives at walmart are like 20bucks, add a USB disk drive and you have a sweet in car PC.

Couple people i know are building one so i will let oyu know how that goes.

http://www.laptop.org/

Have you seen the $100 laptop project? It's trying to bring cheap computing to children in underdeveloped countries. It's powered by a hand crank (few cranks last quite a while), has a wireless NIC, flash memory, and a USB port. The laptop is built for rugged handling since it'll be around children most of the time.

Pretty cool stuff. I'd want one if it didn't look so much like a children's toy.

It gets to the money shot then the batteries die and the kids have to start cranking the handle again.

Re: The 72 dollar PC

Well, the $100 PC's been possible for a while now. You could build one using a cheap $1 plastic breadbox as the case.

The thing that turns me off with the low cost PC is that the boards are a mini-itx, so their hard to find and they are expensive if you want run something other than Linux on them (cheapers ones doen't have as much power). And in addition, the PSUs are even harder to find, since only 2 companies that I know of make them.
