Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
I don't know but if I were you I would save my bookmarks from now on in case it happens again. Just go to Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks, and then File -> Export and just save it anywhere you want. And then just import them in case they get lost again.

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
Foxmarks might be a decent move as well, even if you don't have multiple computers with Firefox going.

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
I've uninstalled/reinstalled, and had all my bookmarks come back. Google it...
(I think it usually happens when you're upgrading versions of FF.. something about the .exe not terminating properly before the updater runs) |

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
Most interesting. After one update, my bookmarks disappeared, my search engines were gone, and my mouse gestures decided to stop working. With this information, I shall quest further for an answer...

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
Another great tool is google sync.
Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions.

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
I use del.icio.us for Firefox bookmarking. The bookmarks are kept on the internet, and synchronized to the local browser using the delicious plugin. I can also tell others about my bookmarks --- del.icio.us/marstein

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
There's a super sneaky way of doing it, if you haven't closed your session since they disappeared. Install Opera (or have it installed), import your bookmarks to it (it should find them, even if they've disappeared from FF) and then reimport into FF. It's done it to me a couple of times, and I've managed to fix it that way (though it was pre 2.0, so it may not work any more nowadays). Barring that, I just started backing my bookmarks up every week.

Re: Retrieving Firefox Bookmarks
But then everyone that comes across your del.icio.us page can see all of your midget porn bookmarks?
