Razer Barracuda Headsets

Ok, so I went out and got a pair of these headsets. They sound awesome, but I am having some issues with the mic. Maybe it is just the way it is, but I think it has something do do with Vista. The mic is basically in whisper mode and really low when I try an use it. Anybody have any hints or advice?

Yeah, the levels seem to be fine. The main issue is it is a uni-directional noise canceling mic. It does not want to play well with other. I may have to put it in time out.

Re: Razer Barracuda Headsets

I got the same headset.

I had the same problem as you did and got frustrated. I ended up buying this.

Its a great set-up and would recommend it to EVERYONE! The sound is ten times better, the mic is top-notch! As far as using your existing soundcard, I tried everything and still couldn't get the mic working to the level I wanted it.

I hope this helps

Re: Razer Barracuda Headsets

im not too thrilled about a $300 sound card.... as for the mic, yours came with a mic? mine didnt... =( but i superglued a boom mic to my monitor and it works awsome, and no bothering with the headset mic, eating it and what not

Re: Razer Barracuda Headsets

Tonk, if your headsets didn't come with a mic, I would seriously take them back.

I have the same headset, Vista and a creative X-Fi and the mic NOW works great. The issue is that you absoultly can NOT let Vista set up the mic for you through the "Set up your Microphone" option under the "Configure" tab. It will always set your main levels way to low to be heard in game regardless on how much you boost it using the games Voice set up.

As stated above, open your Volume mixer and then recording devices. Click on Properties, check the 20db gain and set your level to 100%. Mic works great after that. Can adjust as needed inside whatever game you're using VOIP.

Honestly, it's one of the best headsets I've ever used. Still not 100% happy with the mic even after it's been set up right, dunno, just the shortness of it bothers me, but it now works like a charm. It just took me awhile to realize that I can't let Vista set my levels for me...after that I've never had a problem with it in game. (If you ever do find that you're too soft in a game, recheck your levels...sometimes Vista decides to lower them on you for whatever reason. Coming to love the OS, but it really does have it's quirks....)

Hope that helps.
