Each core on the Q6600 is still pretty good by itself so I think you'll be fine. Either processor is pretty good for now. The E6850 is probably a tiny bit better in a few more apps.

On-board sound sucks. I've done comparisons with a Game Theater XP, Audigy 1, X-Fi and on-board sound. I can't really tell the difference with speakers but headphones really make a big difference for me. Everything except the on-board sound has full bodied tones. The on-board sounds tinny. The performance isn't much different though. It's about 5 FPS and maybe less if you have a good processor or crappy video card.
