I argee, they are the best.
I have nothing but PC&Coolings in our six machines and lan/ftp server.
I had two customed wired (they didn't offer the ones I wanted in the config I needed at that time)
Their sales reps are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Yes they cost more, but I wouldn't buy any other power supply.

Re: teach me about power supplies

I could just as easily recommend Seasonic as others would recommend PC Power and Cooling.

Here's a nice guide to purchasing a quality PSU: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=458204

They are more or less correct in their assertions on some of the poorer quality PSU brands and pricing wise.

Re: teach me about power supplies

thanks Melee, I found the AMD recommended psu. At the link you posted. It is the TURBO-COOL® 1KW-SR itch costs ~$439.99; the other power supply was a 'ABS Tagan ITZ Series ITZ1100 ATX12V / EPS12V 1100W Power Supply 115 - 230V ± 10% tolerance TUV, UL, CE, CB, FCC, Semko, Nemko, Demko, Fimko - Retail at $299.99. The ABS is rate well.

in a later post, I will put what parts I am looking at.

Re: teach me about power supplies

Then get the most powerful PSU you can find and plop down a lot of cash for the PSU and the 4 video cards. It's a waste of money because the price:performance ratio is crap.

Holy crap, isn't that overkill? (Another way of saying what Sarc said)

I believe you could dial it back a bit to just two cards and get the 750W PCP&C for $200. Then you can buy me a new video card with just a fraction of all the coin you'll save.

Re: teach me about power supplies

The performance ratio for (2) 8800s isn't that great either. You might as well flop down the money for a single 8800GTX.

Re: teach me about power supplies

SLI 8800s (GTX) would be best for really high resolutions. I'm talking about 2560x1600 or 2048x1536. In any other case, it's quite the waste of money since very few run at uber high resolutions. It'll be a fast system but you can build a system that's almost as fast for a lot less money.

Re: teach me about power supplies

Those high-res CRTs are really heavy and bulky too. I haven't seen any LCDs that boast 2560 x 1600 res yet.

Re: teach me about power supplies

I think some people hook up SLI rigs to crazy devices or you could have a bigger resolution with dual monitors and a game that supports it (SupCom, WiC).

Re: teach me about power supplies

ok, you have a point- get a single card and rethink about the level I need or want rather than building the ultimate pc.

Re: teach me about power supplies

the things you want to do are great, in about 10 years, maybe less. Games just don't require those setups yet. The only thing I've really seen in the SLI is fraps and video recording type programs run better. Though, the GTX probable runs fraps and game well enough.
